TEMPEST

Send someone to Nevada, said the ghosts. You'll understand why he's missing.
They spoke a bunch of bullshit, evidently. I had to sit in utter torture for three days being called Mingus and Doughboy. I liked Piper just fine. The name she gave me was horrendous, but she's nice and she fed me.
But Leo...
I ignored the screaming down the Grand Canyon and stomped over to Leo, who was barely conscious. I have been working very hard these last few months to be a better person. I learned to be nicer. To be more understanding.
I still do not understand dumbasses, and I cannot be nice to them.
I kicked his side. "Get up, you little shit." The screaming in the canyon stopped. Leo groaned as I rolled him over with my feet. His army coat was soaked from the rain. His curly hair glittered gold from rolling around in monster dust. Unfortunately, he didn't die.
"Stupid... ugly... goat," he muttered.
I took his head in my hands and he yelped as I pried his eyelids open with my thumbs and index fingers. His pupils looked fine and his temperature was all right. I tossed him back down and stood up fully, looking down and resisting the urge to throw him into the canyon.
Speaking of which, I turned and saw Piper and Jason casually floating out of the abyss and touching down on the skywalk. Jason looked confused but calm. Piper ran to Leo, clearly worried for him.
"He's fine," I told her. "Coach- not so much. He's gone."
Leo moaned incoherently. "Please tell me he didn't actually save my life."
I frowned. "Hey, I did too, dipshit, even though you don't deserve it for calling me Doughboy."
Piper stood up straight, looking up at me nervously. "Who... Who are you?"
"I'm Tempest," I told her.
Leo groaned even louder. "What happened? The tornado guy, the gold sword, the cat-girl... I hit my head. That's it, right? I'm hallucinating?"
Jason must've forgotten about the sword. He walked over to where it was lying and picked it up. He hesitated, then flipped it. Mid spin, the sword shrank back into a coin and landed in his palm.
"Yep," Leo said. "Definitely hallucinating."
Piper shivered and stared at me. "I- I don't understand. You were a cat!"
"And then I wasn't," I told her, walking around the investigate the damage. Part of the skywalk was cracked. "Jason, you acted like you recognized the storm spirits." I turned and met his icy eyes. "Who are you, is the better question."
He shook his head. "That's what I've been trying to tell everyone. I don't know."
The storm dissipated. The other kids from the Wilderness School were staring out the glass doors in horror. Security guards were working on the locks now, but they didn't seem to be having any luck.
