I woke up to Tempest laying her entire body on mine, which is mainly bothersome because she only weighs a lot when she wants to weigh a lot. I groaned as I forced my eyelids open, and she leaned down so close, her icy nose touched the tip of mine.
I blinked slowly. "You look like you have one eye right-"
She kissed me very suddenly, which made me hesitate before kissing her back, and I could feel her smiling. She moved on to kiss my cheek, then my temple, then put her lips right next to my ear.
"Guess what day it is?"
I smile instantly breached my face and I blushed, laughing softly as I put my arms around her shoulders. "September eighteenth already?"
One month. That is how long Tempest and I had been together; one whole month. Well, twenty nine days, since I kicked her out one weekend, but that doesn't count.
She pulled away far enough that her face actually looked whole, and I felt my heart fluttering at the smile on her face. I'd been seeing more of that smile lately, which made me look at the future with hope.
Her dark hair fell forward and she rolled her eyes. "Come on..."
I snorted. "Why don't you just pull it back?"
"Because I look like a Walmart version of Keanu Reeves when I do that," she said. Tempest rolled off my bed and fixed her hair, giving me the opportunity to sit up. My own head was topped with a bird's nest of once-curly blonde hair and my eyes felt strained from looking through Daedalus's laptop so long. I wiped my face with my hands and looked over at Tempest, who was awkwardly standing weirdly close to my bed, a little pink bag in her hand.
I stared at her. "Why do you look like you don't know what to do with yourself?"
She shrugged. "Guess I don't." She shook the bag, gesturing for me to take it.
I grinned and grabbed it, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. "Wow. You're fast."
"Why, thank you. I've only been obsessing over getting you nice things since I met you." Those words made me glance at the ring on my hand, which she'd given me just a few months into our friendship. Every time I look at it, I'm reminded how much she does care.
She sat down next to me as I removed the tissue paper from the box and slipped my hand to figure out what little trinket she'd bought for me. I pulled it out, finding lemon bars, a cute silver photo frame with a picture of my family in it, and some type of little silver locket.
I grinned as I pulled the locket open and my heart swelled. I saw a photo of my brothers, Bobby and Matthew, on one side, as well as a photo of my friends- Percy, Grover, and Tyson. I threw my arms around Tempest and laughed before forcing her to help me with putting it on.
"I'll have you decked-out in riches pretty soon," Tempest said, clasping the locket shut. It rested just slightly lower than my camp beads.
I took her by the shoulders. Her eyebrows raised, but her eyes looked tired as ever. "I have a present too, so don't worry."
"I didn't worry. I don't mind." Then she did that thing where she aggressively kisses my whole face. "You're my present, Wise Girl!"
