Lydia still didn't wanna face her sister so she would spend the entire day in Desmond's secret lab. She read through the pages and found that a certain ingredient was missing in whatever he wanted to create. About what Desmond had found out about those, it was something belonging to a powerful person. Something soft.

Lydia remembered her sister's hair to be soft. Erika was also apparently a powerful person so it would make sense. Lydia decided to go to her sister.

Without saying a word she grabbed and pulled her hair, took out scissors and cut a bit off her hair. Erika looked visibly disturbed. "Lydia... Why did you do that?" Erika wondered. Her visions couldn't have predicted it because they somehow didn't work on her sister. She became concerned about her sister. Lydia would look at the ground and run away again. Back in the basement, she found Desmond. "Des! Des! I found the missing ingredient!" She shouted happily.

Desmond looked at her confused. "Hair from your sister?..." He asked being confused. "She's one of the chosen ones and her hair is extremely soft!" Lydia explained proud that she found out. Desmond decided to go along with it and mixed it along his liquid which turned black and shimmered in every color. Lydia was stunned.

"Woah. Are we gonna test it?" She asked being curious. "Hm. Shall I test it first? I don't wanna lose my great partner im case something goes wrong." Desmond questioned chuckling. "Well then, go ahead." Lydia was too curious to wait any longer.

Desmond stabbed himself in the arm with the needle and injected some of that liquid into his arm. His fingers turned black and sharp, shimmering red, his red pupils turned long and sharp as well and a faint halo which looked more corrupted than saint appeared on his head. He looked disturbing to say the least.

Lydia was stunned. So was Desmond. He beamed with happiness. "It worked! I would like to work more on it though. It's not strong enough yet to be used." He explained. He then covered his hand in gloves and the disturbing changes were almost unnoticeable. As soon as his hand was covered, his halo dissappeared as well.

Lydia was awake at night. It haunted her but also made her impatient to experience those changes too. They seemed to make him more powerful so she wanted to be like that too. She wanted the 5 chosen ones to fall.

The next days Desmond didn't even seem to stand out. Lydia was impressed by his calm and normal facade.

Desmond approached her one evening. "Look, if you keep fighting with Erika, they won't trust you. Please at least act like you would like her." Desmond suggested.

Lydia thought it through. It was right that if they want to strike them down, they need to trust them first. "Let's just all keep our facades up." She agreed.

One day, when Desmond wanted to go inside his basement again, Itsuki took a grip of his arm. "Oh Desmond. Please let's do something together instead of you going into that basement again. It's not healthy for you. Just reminding you that that's why you have glasses." Itsuki explained like he was some kind of doctor. Desmond was hesitant at first but decided to agree. Itsuki was his best friend after all and some free time wouldn't harm him, he thought.
"Sure, buddy." Desmond smiled.

They played chess first. Itsuki was known as the chess master before in this orphanage because no one beat him. But to his surprise Desmond did. In fact Itsuki did not win a single party of chess against him. He looked at Desmond with awe.

"How is that possible? I never lost before..." Itsuki wondered. "I played chess alone with myself all the time in my old home because I only was allowed to play chess. So I'm more practiced. Don't worry, it's not your fault." Desmond tried to comfort him. In that moment Desmond realized that Itsuki was a great friend. Desmond would either have to get rid of those friendships or spare Itsuki once his plan shall come true.

Itsuki took Desmond's hand. "Thanks, Des. You always know how to cheer me up. Thank you for being there you know." Itsuki told him and smiled gratefully. Desmond still wasn't used to someone wanting him at all. He didn't believe he deserved those compliments. From all he had learned you reply with a compliment to a compliment so he hesitantly stuttered "Same to you. I hope our friendship lasts." And even if Desmond didn't mean it, it made Itsuki happy and that was was mattered to Desmond right now.

"Wow Des, your hand is ice cold. Are you okay?" Itsuki asked. Desmond, still stuck in questioning whether he liked that friendship or not, didn't pay any attention. So all he mumbled was: "Well, it's still cold outside, isn't it?"
