Tw: mention of parent loss, mention of car crash
I think this is actually it for once, Enjoy!!
___________________________________________Mai was walking around the school building. She wasn't feeling that wall and wanted to be with Gudrun to feel better. She was deep in thought and didn't notice Erika, who she crashed right into. Mai quickly got up embarrassed. "I didn't mean do do that, ah, I'm so sorry." She said holding a hand out for Erika to help her up.
"It's quite alright, Mai!" Erika stated getting up and seeing her expression. "Something happened?.." She asked, still gently holding her hand. Mai sighed. "Do you know where Gudrun is?" She asked fidgeting on her jacket. Erika tried to remember. "Well, I'm pretty sure she said she wanted to go visit Jude and Robin in the orphanage. I think she wants to spend some family time with them, I'd guess." Erika informed her smiling. "Man..." Mai mumbled. "I wanted to speak to her because today's a certain day I don't wanna spend alone.."
Erika looked at her saddened face and sighed "Would I also be okay to talk to? If it's really that bad of a day, I'd feel bad to leave you alone." She suggested gently stroking Mai's cheek, who looked up at her considering it. "Why not... I think you can relate to how I feel. Let's go to my our dorm." Mai said, pulling Erika along.
In her dorm, Mai made tea for both of them and they sat down at her table. "So what happened today?" Erika asked, curiosity getting the better of her. "It's hard to explain, atleast for me.." Mai started and hugged her legs before she was able to continue. "Remember why I came into the orphanage in the first place?... I never talked about that topic but..."
Erika thought back to the times she had talked to Mai in the orphanage. No one ever mentioned something of her past except she has no one to go to. She had been secretive about it. "Not really, can you clear me up?" Erika asked tilting her head. Mai looked away and nodded.
"It was on a car ride. My mom, my dad and me wanted to visit a friend of theirs when my father, who was driving, suddenly got knocked out by something. The last things I heard were my mother's screams for my father to wake up. Apparently he had taken the wrong medications for his blood pressure. Well to keep things short, we had a car crash... And I was the only survivor." Mai explained, trying not to cry.
Erika looked saddened as well. "Oh Mai..." She muttered. "So that's why you didn't want to be alone?... It's your parents death day?.." She asked gently putting an arm around Mai as a gesture of comfort. "Yeah. Losing a parent is the worst. I had so many memories with my parents, they were they sweetest and suddenly they were gone in a blink." Mai mumbled hugging her legs.
Erika looked down. She herself had lost a parent but hadn't given it much thought as she didn't wanna live in the past since she wanted to be happy. She looked back over to her. "Mai, what do you remember? Let's talk about your happy moments together. They may not be here anymore, but memories never die.." She asked to which Mai slowly nodded. "I guess you're right... Hm, I remember cuddling up to them on the couch when it was a rainy day and they kept me company so I would be less scared. Yeah that's a nice memory." Mai explained with a bittersweet smile. It made Erika smile too, her parents had probably been really good people that passed under unfair circumstances.
"It sounds like they're really nice... Did they work at home?" Erika asked, trying to keep the conversation going. "No, my mother was a mailwoman and was home early because she was fast carrying out the mail, while my father was a plumber, taking a little longer to get home, but he always made it for dinner and we always ate together... Sometimes I wish I could go back to those times. They were nicer than this depressing century [Redacted] put us in." Mai stated her smile faltering slightly.
Erika's face saddened as well. Mai wasn't wrong, what [Redacted] did was maybe cool, but as a whole it was depressing. People suffering from the unbearable abilities he gave them.. people's genes being manipulated and altered to let more mutants be born. But no one could change it now, so they had to protect this unfortunate world of people with the wrong intentions.
"Yeah, this century isn't the best, but we will do our best getting around, alright?" Erika asked positively and Mai nodded slowly. "Not like we have much choice right?.." Mai replied.
"Why has [Redacted] specifically chosen us?... We're not that good of fighters. I bet Desmond could've been a better protector. I mean look at him, he looks like he would love to beat up people, if you ask me." Mai joked and Erika chuckled. "Yeah, we should beware of him, not that he suddenly turns out to be a threat, haha." She laughed and both seemed in a much more light mood. Erika was glad she could get Mai on better thoughts. This day wasn't easy for her after all.
Their laughter calmed down after a while and they sat in silence. The first one to break this silence was Mai. "Erika, thanks... I feel a bit better now. You're a great friend." Mai exclaimed pulling Erika into a hug. "No need to thank me, I'm just doing what I can for my friends, that's what friends do." She said holding Mai gently and stroking her hair, hoping the girl would get soothed by her gesture.
After some time, Mai decided to break the hug and looked at Erika with a serious expression. "Is it true that you've also lost a parent?" She asked carefully.
Erika was a little dumbfounded and it took her some time to reply. "Y-yeah I did.."
