_______________________________________Rachel had been wearing gloves since the whole corruption thing. People seeing her hands could be bad for the plan after all. She didn't want to endanger the only family she's ever had.
Rachel went to school. Her friend Page was waiting for her in class. "Hey Rachel! If you had come only 1 minute later you would have been to late." She teased her. "Haha Page. I know.. I had something to take care of before coming here, ugh." Rachel mumbled. That something was to watch Kate go into her classroom.
Page was someone Rachel admired. After school she was mostly working or training for her family's business: A circus. Her job there was to be one of the circus clowns. Even though she barely had free time, she was still incredibly smart.
Rachel put her books on her desk and arranged them in a satisfying order. In class while writing or just in general doing anything with her hand she noticed it wasn't like it used to. It felt weird. It was as if whatever Desmond wanted it to feel it would. Rachel sighed and took her other hand to write. She was one of the few people on earth that are able to use both their hands with the same strength.
After class, Rachel and Page went to eat something in the cafeteria. "God, I'm so done with this." Page groaned. "3 nights without sleep because I had to study, train and train over and over, ugh." Page let herself fall on a chair next to Rachel. "You should train less and sleep more. Problem solved." Rachel suggested coldly while drinking her slushy. Page facepalmed. "You know it's not that easy right? My parents force me to train. I would sleep more if I could. Something you probably don't understand." She sighed. "I do understand that. I also work! Not as hard as you do but still..." Rachel defended herself.
Page looked surprised. "You work? Where? Why do I know nothing about that, that's not nice of you bestie!" Page pouted. Rachel fell silent. She had actually revealed that she works for Desmond. Well not exactly because no one knows who she's working for but now Page is gonna insist until she gets her answer.
"I... I just care about some orphans.." Rachel lied as she couldn't think of a better lie. Page laughed. "Aw come on, even my sister can lie better than you!" Page laughed and leaned back. "Come on, I'm your best friend! You can tell me, I won't tell anyone." Page assured her. "If that would be that easy.." Rachel thought clueless on what to do now.
"I.." she began biting her lower lip in despair before continuing. "I work for an army of sorts... We're trying to defeat a god... Goddess... Whatever this thing is... We want to free people of their misery of being forsaken by this god.." Rachel slowly explained, keeping her voice quiet so no one could hear.
Page looked at her dumbfounded. That was not at all what she was expecting. She was expecting an embarrassing job like working as an actor for a school book, but this... Page started to think Rachel was losing it. "What?.." Page simply asked. "Are you feeling alright, Rachel?" She asked concerned, touching Rachel's forehead. It was a normal body temperature. "Of course you don't believe me, what a 'great best friend'" Rachel ranted angrily. Page sighed and looked at her. "I can try, but what you just told me sounds like something impossible. Don't you realize how stupid that sounds?" She asked Rachel who looked down thinking. "You know how stupid the events of 1996 sound? Meteors.. or stars... Whatever you want to call them falling onto earth granting everyone a superpower? Does that sound normal to you, huh? What's your superpower, Page? I bet it's not normal at all." Rachel continued to rant and studied Page's expression. It was an expression of surprise.
Page thought for a moment. Rachel was right. If something like that is possible then why should her job be unrealistic. "I believe you Rachel..." She slowly admitted. "I.. I can control people's emotions.." Page mumbled. "Well not all of them... I can choose between fear, anger, happiness and sadness. That's all." She explained. Rachel looked interested.
"That's actually so cool Page." Rachel said and took her hands. "I have one too!" She stated. "I can cry acid. Pretty useful but also annoying at times." Rachel laughed. Page couldn't help but join her laughter. "That sounds absolutely stupid. Funny reality we have here haha." Page exclaimed still holding Rachel's hand.
"Hey Page." Rachel suddenly spoke. "Yeah what is it?" Page wondered. "Your power could also be useful in my job... How about I show it to you and you say if you'd like to join it?" Rachel questioned carefully. "You will never have to have sleepless nights from your parents! Desmond, my boss, will take care of it!" Rachel exclaimed smiling. Page thought about it for a moment before replying.
"That sounds awesome, let's do that!"
