The next morning when Viktoria woke up, she found her mother nwct to her. She smiled at the fact that she had slept next to her. She tried waking her. "Mommy? Mommy I need breakfast!" She stated shaking her slightly. There was no reply. Her mother's body was just limp in her small arms. Viktoria brushed it off thinking her mother was probably only still asleep. She made breakfast for herself. Cornflakes with milk. The only thing she knew how to do  herself.

Soon the daycare caretaker was there to pick Viktoria up. She smiled when she spotted the small one calmly eating. "Helloy Viktoria. Is your mother not feeling well?" She asked her. Viktoria shook her head. "Mommy is okay! She's just sleeping!" Viktoria exclaimed. That statement worried the caretaker alot. "Where is she, sweetie?" She asked getting down to the little one's level. Viktoria pointed at her room. "She fell asleep next to my bed!" She explained.

The caretaker entered the room. She saw Viktoria's mother and noticed she didn't have a pulse anymore and her eyes were glassy, looking dead. The caretaker almost let out a scream, she had never seen a dead body before, especially not the mother of an innocent five year old who had no idea about life and death. She quickly called the ambulance.

"Sweetie, your mom is not feeling very well..." She tried to calmly explain it to Viktoria. "She will be at the doctor for a bit, they're gonna make her ouchie okay." The caretaker stated trying not to cry. "Okay." Viktoria said. "Can I stay with mommy? I promise I'll be quiet..." She asked innocently. The caretaker sighed at her innocence. "I'm sorry... I don't think I can provide anything like that for you. The doctors are quite strict and don't want children just running around." She lied not wanting this small girl finding out there was nothing to fix her mother.
"How about we go to a place where many children are and you can play alot?" The caretaker would ask abd Viktoria got excited. "Yes, yes! I wanna play!" Viktoria agreed quickly. The caretaker gave her a soft smile and when the ambulance had taken away her mother, she drove Viktoria to the Orphanage a few towns away. The orphanage in fortress aegis. "Viktoria, you will stay here for a while. I'll come back later and help you get your stuff here as well." She assured the small child and Viktoria simply nodded. She didn't understand the situation. It looked very normal in her eyes. As the caretaker drove off, Viktoria turned to the entrance. A young orphanage caretaker stood there.

"Hello, you must be Viktoria right?" She asked getting down to her level smiling. "Yes! My mommy is at the doctor's and I need to stay here." She explained her situation to the caretaker.

"I see..." The young caretaker mumbled. "You can call me Nanako!.. I will take care of you for now." Nanako said picking up the little child. Viktoria smiled. "Nanako!" She exclaimed and Nanako chuckled.

Inside Viktoria was introduced to the other children her age. There were a lot, but she decided to stick with a girl named Kate as Viktoria thought she was pretty cool. The two played for a while like children just do. After a few hours Viktoria went to the gate again, wanting to see her mother or the caretaker there. Kate was confused and joined her. "Vik, what's wrong?" She asked her gently. Viktoria looked at her. "My mommy is still not back... Does she not want me anymore?... Did I hurt her?.." Viktoria asked her small eyes tearing up. Kate shook her head. "No no, surely she will one day! We can play until that day!" Kate promised and Viktoria wiped her tears away getting back to playing with her new friend.

A few days later, the funeral was. Viktoria got a child psychologist explaining her mother's death to her in a gentle manner. Viktoria didn't want to hear any if it though. All she understood was that her mother was never coming back and that made her cry for weeks after that. She didn't smile a single time for 10 months after that. For everyone, even Nanako it was hard to see a five year old so broken. Like promised the caretaker had gotten her stuff with all her plushies and clothes and she stayed at the orphanage. For those 10 monthsy the only person Viktoria allowed close to her was Kate.

Viktoria woke up abruptly at night in her dorm. She had dreamt about her mother's death again... This had been the second time this week. Viktoria sighed, she would need to focus on the future, to become someone her mother would be proud of.

Then she could atleast grant her mother's last wish...
