_______________________________________Gabriel stayed home many days after the incident in class, isolating himself from everyone except his mother.
"Don't you wanna go back to school soon? I know you're afraid but staying here doesn't help." His mother said in an concerned tone. Gabriel lowered his gaze, his features taking on fear.
"I would but I saw the exact time of their deaths mom. Every time I think about them I need to think about how William doesn't even makes it to his 40s." Gabriel said his eyes tearing up. "You need to stop being afraid of people dying. Maybe see it that way: Let's make his last years his best?" His mother suggested slowly bringing herself down to him and sitting down next to him. "I can't mom. He will die. He will die when we would ever become friends. I don't want to lose more people, I can't take it no more. My life should end before theirs. They don't deserve the fate awaiting them. I wish I could die for them..." Gabriel muttered crying. His mother was about to cry as well but she also knew she had to stay strong for her one and only son. "Gabriel." She said taking hold of his shoulders, looking into his lowered gaze. "I don't ever want hear you say that again, you hear me? You're a great person, a great son, I love you and won't ever let you throw everything away for your curse." She said determined. She would do anything for her son. Gabriel hugged her crying into her shoulder.
"Gabriel, I want you to befriend this William and make his last years the best. It'd be a good way to overcome your fear. Even though he dies early, he could still be a wonderful candidate for friendship, trust me!" His mother said stroking his hair. "Please, just do it for me." She pleaded. "Okay mom." He said after a while of thinking. "I will try..."
Like he promised, he went to school the day after. He sat down at his desk and looked over to William. He looked oddly beautiful with his fluffy hair in a ponytail like that. Gabriel let a small smile appear on his face but turned away with embarrassment when he noticed.
After class he went over to William. "H-Hey... Sorry for being so weird yesterday... I uhm wasn't feeling well and let's just say I'm a bit of a scaredy cat." Gabriel forced a laugh. William unsure of what to do, laughed akwardly. "I'm not that brave either, haha..." William mumbled. "Well you can call me Will, that's my nickname. Do you have a nickname Gabriel?" William asked nicely while giving Erika a show off looking face because he got the target to nicely talk to him first. Erika just rolled her eyes and sighed. "Well, I-I guess you could call me Gabe." Gabriel muttered hesitantly.
William grinned proudly. "Alright Gabe, wanna hang out in my dorm?" William asked and leaned next to his ear. "Without miss math genius of course." He whispered obviously referring to Erika visible through his also obvious hand gestured pointing to Erika. Gabriel hesitated for a while.
"Sure, why not..." He mumbled. In Williams dorm, both sat down at a small table. William prepared a tea and served it. "So Gabe..." He paused taking a sip of his tea. "Do you have any special abilities like almost every kid nowadays?" William asked with a curious expression. Gabriel, hesitant as always, thought about it a while. It would perhaps scare William, knowing he knows things that no one would ever wanna know, but on the other hand it would be relieving telling someone about it. So after a small while he replied. "I... I can see when people die. The exact time." Gabriel mumbled in a hushed tone as he began to shake, awaiting Williams fearful reaction, but nothing came. William took another sip of his tea before speaking, choosing his words carefully.
"That seems concerning. Are you alright? It's probably not easy seeing that. Can you turn it off?" William asked full of worry as he slowly embraced Gabe. He had never been hugged or treated like that before by anyone except his mother. He didn't know what to do so he just sat there and answered his questions. "I.. I think I'm okay. Don't worry about me... I... I can't turn it off. Everytime I look into someone eyes I see everything I need to know about the time of their death. Gabriel explained slowly tearing up.
William did everything in his might to comfort him. He knew how all powers had downsides. He had seen them in his friends. He held Gabriel tight. "Sh... It's okay you can cry. Let it out, I'm here." William said.
After a while Gabriel stopped crying and just stayed like that in William's arms.
Both new this was the beginning of a friendship they've never had before.
