Soon enough, the first month is over and they're a week or so into the second month, and Neytiri has taught Jake the basics of archery without letting him actually try yet.
And so, Jake finds himself once again in his Avatar body, like he always is when he's with the Na'vi.
Neytiri has taken Jake to the clearing where archery practice takes place as she thinks he's ready as he'll ever be to use a bow and arrow.
"Do you know how to do archery, other than what I told you?" Neytiri asks.
"I threw darts at a dartboard if that counts." Jake replies with a small smile.
Neytiri stares at Jake silently for a moment. She has no idea what a dartboard is and she does not know what darts are either.
After a moment of silence, Neytiri lets out a small sigh.
"So the answer is no?" Neytiri asks, raising her eyebrows.
Jake gives Neytiri a sheepish look, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Uh.... yeah, the answer is no." Jake admits.
Neytiri tries to conceal her annoyance and disappointment at Jake's answer.
"You're hopeless." Neytiri says bluntly.
Jake's mouth falls open slightly. He knew Neytiri would probably think of him a little differently once she realises he has no damn clue how to use a bow and arrow, but he didn't expect to literally be called hopeless.
"Oh, come on." Jake protests.
"I'm not hopeless." Jake insists, feeling a tad bit of embarrassment.
"Well.. we'll see about that." Neytiri replies before she grabs the spare bow she'd brought along, and then pulling an arrow out of her quiver which is on the ground nearby, handing the spare bow and arrow to him.
Jake gingerly takes the bow and arrow, feeling a sense of uncertainty wash over him as he looks down at the bow and arrow in his hands. He has never even held a bow and arrow, let alone actually use one.
"Uh..." Jake hesitantly says.
"What now?" Jake asks, looking back at her.
"Get into position." Neytiri says simply.
Jake nods and tries to get into position. He spreads his feet so far apart, it almost looks like he's about to take a dump right there and then and he's holding the bow awkwardly, like he's not even sure what he's doing with it.
Neytiri watches Jake, her curiosity getting the better of her as she watches him try to get into position. At first, she's just intrigued to see how he positions himself.
But soon enough, Neytiri's curiosity rapidly turns into disturbance and shock as Jake spreads his legs so far apart he almost looks like he's doing the famous 'squat' position before taking a dump.
"What—what are you doing?" Neytiri finally asks, her tone filled with disbelief and amusement.
Jake looks up at Neytiri, his grip tightening somewhat on the bow and arrow.
"Uh, what do you mean?" Jake asks, slightly confused.
"I'm getting into position?" Jake adds and he tries to sound nonchalant.
Neytiri stares at Jake silently for a moment before slowly closing the distance between them. She moves behind him, carefully repositioning his legs so they're not spread so far apart.
Neytiri then walks to Jake's side and gently grabs his hands and adjusts his grip on the bow and arrow, making sure he's holding it correctly.
Jake can't help but feel slightly embarrassed and a sense of appreciation for Neytiri helping him because clearly he had no idea what the hell he was doing.
