Chapter 1

Bryan's POV

After being in Inpu's...I think house for a week, I began to pick up a few things.

First off, I was the longest living person that he's apparently kept as a partner.

Second, I figured out a few personal rules I made myself follow based on things I've observed.

The biggest thing I did was put scented candles around the place so I could sneak out and know where I was going.

Inpu noticed me doing it while he showed me around, but the only comment he made was that my cult habits hadn't died, but I figured it was more complicated than that.

I learned that the mark Inpu left on me only alerted him if I left the building, so whenever he left the building, I could walk around and since the guards liked me, they wouldn't tell anyone.

A large chunk of the time, Inpu wasn't around, so I had a large amount of the day to run around.

The down side of him never being around, he had a large chance of becoming angered and coming home only to take it out on the first person he saw.

It was easy to tell if he was going to take it out on me depending on what he called me, he never called me by my actual name, so if he called me "Gem" I was safe, but if he called me by my name, I was likely his target.

I had a few placed in the room where I could hide, the best one being a hidden cabinet in the walk in closet that I was just barely able to fit in.

That hiding spot was where I was today, the guards were able to find out what his temper was before he got home, so I just put my phone on silent while I waited for him to come home and calm down.

He seemed nearly frantic while searching around the room for me, which made me more scared then I usually was.

Not wanting to get hurt, I curled up and decided to try and take a nap just to wait out his rage, but right before I fell asleep, I started to feel a burn in my neck which caused me to scream.

It hurt enough where he noticed where I was hiding, and dragged me out.

I began to panic and try to pull away, but he dragged me out and dropped me on his bed before he went to get changed.

"Care to explain why you were hiding, Gem"

All the words I wanted to say came to mind, but nothing was coming out of my mouth, I was just nervous that I'd get hurt to the point I didn't even notice that he called me gem.

"Alright, be like that, see if I bring in something for you next time"

"I was hiding because I was nervous that you'd be in a bad mood again"

"What would give you the idea of that?"

"The fact the past few days you've come back and I've heard you hit the guards, so despite the fact it only happened to me once, it keeps making me nervous"

Inpu just sighed before he sat next to me and pulled me close to him, which caused me to flinch.

He could tell I was nervous, but he moved me in a position where he could tell I felt comfortable.

I knew he was a demon, so I never could tell which organs he had and which he didn't due to the type of demon he was, so I wasn't expecting to hear anything when he placed my head on his chest where his heart would be, but to my shock, I heard his heartbeat.

"I need you to realize that most of the time I don't plan to harm you, you are the most loyal partner I've chosen so far, my own father never cared for my future, so I'm not sure what I should be doing, so I need you to bare with me"

Before I could respond, he left the room, so I knew I'd probably be delivered food sometime soon, and since I never ate with him, it was easier for me to just go back to playing on my phone.

Once my food was dropped off, I could barely eat, so I just left it there, I wanted to eat, but my stomach just didn't want to agree with me for no reason at all.

Inpu came back in the room after a few hours and clearly noticed I hadn't been eating.

"Gem, I suggest you eat now before I force you to"

"I'm not hungry"

"Eat now, otherwise I am chaining you to a chair and putting a feeding tube down your nose so you at least have a full stomach"

I didn't respond to him, I just rolled over to my other side so it would take him more effort for him to do so.

He started to grab my arms while grabbing something from a drawer.

"This is your last chance, Gem, if I need to put in a feeding tube, it won't be the most comfortable, so eat now otherwise you'll be in a good amount of pain"

"Just leave me alone, if I eat, I have a feeling I'll just throw up"

"Then I do need to put it in, I can't have you getting sick since you will need to be in tip top shape until I'm able to bring you outside with me"

I ended up spreading out my wings so they were arched and spread out so he couldn't try anything.

Inpu realized I was just being a bit dumb since he just pulled me so I was sitting up, so I just started to squirm out of his grip.

After a bit of fighting, I was able to loosen his grip and when I hit the floor, I crawled under the bed.

"Gem, you fighting this is only hurting you"

"I'm not eating no matter how hard you try"

"Then I wait till you fall asleep, while I would prefer to have your consent to do this, if you don't eat, I won't hesitate to put it in while you sleep"

"You say this like you've had someone die from starvation before"

"Because I have had sacrifices die of starvation, which is why I have started keeping items to prevent things servants have use to rid themselves of the pain"

I thought about it for a bit before I decided if I was going to eat the food they brought in for me or not.

"I'll eat it if you can warm it up, every time they bring in food for me its always cold"

"If it gets you to eat, then I will"

Inpu left the room soon after and came back with something that smelled really good.

I took a glance at what he brought in to find that he had a good sized plate with stake and potatoes which still wasn't my favorite thing to eat, but it was much better than the sludge looking thing the maids would bring in.

He watched me closely as I ate and continued to watch as I went back to the bed to try and sleep.

Once I was able to get comfortable, he laid down next to me and wrapped his arm around me as he started to fall asleep.

I could never tell why, but I always felt comfortable when he held me close.

It was the first time I ever felt safe with someone, but I didn't know why I felt this way.

After a while, I could tell he was asleep, so I figured I could ask about the comfort thing when we woke up since I was pretty sure it was because of whatever powers he had.
