Chapter 40

Bryan's POV

After a week being home, I returned to work, and for the most part, it was pretty uneventful.

Most of the appointments I had scheduled were shifted due to my issues, and luckily for everyone, there weren't many cases I needed to be called into the ER for.

I was still helping out in the ER, it was always pretty busy there, so I was mainly helping with some of the lower level emergencies to get them in and out as quickly as needed.

Break time came quick, so I sat back in my office to try and clear my mind, but one of the nurses came in and said that someone was here with food for me.

Not knowing who it was since Artemis and Crystal were at school and the triplets were supposed to be homeschooled for the time being, I curiously went downstairs to see who it was.

Upon reaching the lobby, I saw Inpu standing there with a bag of food in his hand.

"Oh, what's this?"

"I figured I might as well bring you some food for your first day back, its a lot better then some of the food they have here"

"True, but how did you find out I worked here?"

"So I may or may not have asked Artemis cause Crystal wouldn't give me a single clue"

"Sounds about right, did you want to go somewhere or are you just dropping off food?"

"There's a park not far from here if you're able to head out for a bit"

"God you know me so well"

Inpu held out his hand for mine which I quickly took before we walked out to the park.

Since I didn't have much time, we just sat down at the first bench we could find before I quickly began to eat.

I wasn't sure why, but once I started to eat, it was like I hadn't eaten in years.

"Damn, slow down, you're going to choke"

"Sorry, this is just so good, what is it?"

"Just normal chicken and vegetables, there was a place down the road I had been wanting to try for a while so I figured while I was looking for some spare clothes I can leave at your place I might as well get something, and with how good it was, I thought you'd like it"

"Well I do, this is also making me realize how hungry I actually am"

"Do you still have the problem of not knowing when you're hungry?"

"Yeah, from what the kids have told me, I've gone a week without eating, only reason I managed to break that streak was because Artemis started to shove food in my mouth"

"And how old was Artemis then?"

"I think six, I just remember it was a long time ago"

"Its still not a good habit to have"

"And I realize that, but there are just some habits I haven't been able to beat, the worst one I have is the candles, I have at least five in every room in the house"

"Any reason for it?"

"Take a wild damn guess"

"You don't preform rituals though-"

"While you are correct, the lighting just feels natural to me, it took me about three years to even use the lights in the house, and even then, it was only turned on because Crystal grabbed at it when she was one"

"My house really doesn't help that, most of my house is magical light or candles, that one doesn't surprise me, but are they ritual candles or no?"

"Oh, they are, I used them for rituals only once though"

"What ritual are you preforming?"

"A health one, at once point, I got really sick, medical school took any extra money I had for text books, so I couldn't go to the doctor on my own, so I went to my plan b"

"Oh, honey..."

"I wouldn't have done it, but I was barely able to sit up right without throwing up, so I sort of had to"

"And I'm going to guess the kids were really little then?"

"Nope, they weren't even born yet, I was in the middle of my first year of med school, that was not fun to explain to my professor"

"What's so weird about saying you preformed a healing ritual on yourself?"

"No one there knew I was raised in a cult and it was a place of science so hearing someone say they preformed a ritual on themself and it worked is a very weird thing to hear"

"You're probably right, they may have just put you in a mental hospital"

"I'm surprised I wasn't put in a mental hospital at any point in my life"

"We could always change that~"

"Let's not, I mean, unless you mean as a doctor, maybe, but no"

"I was thinking more for when we test roleplay before-"

"Not in public"

"Sorry, love"

I finished fully eating and began to pack everything up again so I could throw it out, but before I could get up to do so, Inpu quickly grabbed it from me and quickly threw it away.

He walked over to me quickly after, but I watched him wag his tails as he made his way over.

"You look like a puppy dog doing that"

"Is that a bad thing?"

"Not at all, I find it cute, now lets head back, I need to get back to work before my break is over"

"Alright, mind if we walk and talk then?"

"Sure, do you have anything to ask?"

"I've been debating sending the triplets to an actual school, homeschooling them works, but they keep hearing the other two talk about the things they do and wish they could do the same"

"So you want me to send you the information for their school so you can have the three of them register"

"Exactly, as long as that doesn't overstep the boundaries we have"

"Not at all, we already plan to let you stay once a week with the three of them, having the triplets attend the same school as Crystal and Artemis would be perfectly fine in my book"

"Good, you really sure me staying by isn't over stepping? I know you said not to enter without permission"

"Inpu, I'm positive, it would be nice to share a room with you along with having the triplets over, I do have the extra room after all, but I need to ask, what's the issue with your dad?"

"What do you mean?"

"You did everything for him, then the moment you realize what you did, you betrayed him by not giving him his share of the power"

"I plan to have a long talk with him, not sure what I'll say yet, but I plan to speak about everything, but I'm not sure how well that will go"

I just gave a slight sigh, not really knowing how to respond, but we got back to the building not long after, so I just went in to finish my shift.

Before I went back to work, I quickly emailed Inpu a copy of what I had to fill out for Artemis and Crystal when I signed them up, but other than that, the rest of the day was uneventful.
