Chapter 24

Bryan's POV

After about a week of preparing how I could run around the house to grab what I needed, the day finally came for me to get the heck out.

Once Inpu left for the day, I waited at the door about half an hour for Zara to arrive, then my plan went into action.

Zara helped me grab a handful of items, such as clothes, snacks, and small trinkets that I thought could be helpful.

I had almost everything gathered in about ten minutes, but there was one thing I had left.

We made our way to the lab and I quickly froze in front of the test tubes.

"So, that's the two of them?"

"Yup, and when they are born is beyond me"

"Well, its clear they won't be twins"

"Yeah, I just want to know how long I need to wait to meet either of them"

"Hey, once you're out of here, you have all the time in the world"

I just smiled as Zara said that, then my notifications for my daily schedule started to go off, so I grabbed my phone, put it on silence, and put my phone in my bag.

"Are you really bringing your phone with you? What happens if Inpu tries to use it to find you"

"He won't, it won't work between realms, plus I've already turned off location so he can't use that, plus little does he know, he's blocked so he can't use anything that could relate to me"

"Smart, but how long will that work? Once he knows you're not here, he will search there"

"Simple, get to my sister's house, get a new phone and number then destroy the old one"

"Will that actually work?"

"Well, if it doesn't, then I'll be in a world of hurt, I'm still taking pain killers daily from our wedding night"

"Oh, what- actually don't tell me"

"Yeah, now help me carefully take these out so I can get out of here"

Zara just nodded before we took out the tiny tubes that held my kids.

Once we got them safely in my backpack, I managed to open the portal.

I waved goodbye to Zara and ended up in some kind of forest.

I quickly gathered myself and began to listen for anything that could help me find a way out of the woods.

It took some time, but I finally heard what sounded like a car horn, so I started to try running towards it, but my meds were wearing off.

After a good amount of time, I heard passing cars getting louder and louder, but once I got pretty close to the road, I collapsed.

When I awoke, I went into a panic cause I had no idea where I was, but once a few of the nurses got me calmed down, they explained that someone found me and brought me to the hospital.

I was told I was in urgent care since no one knew my condition and I was clearly scraped up from running in the woods.

They asked if I had anyone who could pick me up, so I told them Bri's name, and once they left, I quickly went to check my things to make sure my stuff was all still there.

Luckily for me, everything was still there, only thing missing was my phone, but I could care less about that, it was in the middle of the woods where it would be destroyed.

About an hour later, once everything showed up clear for me, Bri arrived and brought me to her place.

We didn't talk on the way home, but once we were in her house, we sat at her dinning room table and she asked me to explain why I was here.

I quickly explained what happened and what I had with me, and I watched her go into shock.

"So let me get this straight, you were tricked into falling in love with a devil to the point you were ok with a wedding, just for him to use you so he could get his power back?"

"Yup, and to top it off, he created my two for a backup plan, had I not found them, who knows what would've happened"

"I'm so sorry, had I noticed the signs I would've gotten you out of there in a heartbeat"

"Don't blame yourself, the signs weren't obvious, heck, I didn't notice them until I read the book"

"Still, I can normally pick up on someone's bad aura, I just assumed Inpu's was from him being a demon, but this would've set it off as well, and I just ignored it"

"Hey, its either I deal with the demon who wants to use me then kill me, or a mother who fails to see what she did wrong with her infant son"

"Yeah, one of those does sound better than the other"

"Question is which one is the better option"

"How about this, since its clear you'll need time to get on your feet, I'll let you have the guest room, then once you have a good job and a place of your own, I'll be there whenever you need me for your little ones"

"You'd really do that for me? You barely know me"

"I could say the same about you, yet you told the hospital to call me, you're my little brother, its what I'm meant to do for you"

"Still, I feel bad just kind of throwing you into this, you have every reason to throw me out, yet you're letting me stay"

"Think about it this way, I'm sure that you would've done the same for me, so just embrace the help, we'll figure something out"

I just nodded and Bri walked me over to the guest room.

She left me alone so I could try and gather my thoughts and get myself situated, but once I took my stuff out of my bag, I just sat in the bed and collapsed.

It wasn't exhaustion this time, so I was still awake, but I had a sense of relief mixed with the expected paranoia.

My mind was numb, I felt safe, but I knew how Inpu thought, how he acted when mad, he'd come looking for me, and one way or another, he'd find me.

All I could do was hope I was able to do something so I didn't ever fully seem pure so he couldn't do anything to me.
