Light Unbridled- Chapter 23: Ten-Thirty-Five

*The scene opens with a slightly younger Penrose in a police cruiser. He is simply watching the traffic on a freeway as he gets a call from dispatch.*

Dispatch: We have a Ten-Sixty-Five in progress at Kay Jewelers in Hammond. All available units, please report.

*Penrose picks up his radio and speaks into it.*

Penrose: On my way.

*Penrose pulls up to the crime scene from a distance and sees that there are four armed individuals, three of them have guns to people's heads. Another officer who showed up on sight uses his car megaphone to speak to the criminals*

Officer: Police! Come out with your hands up, now!

*One of the men opens the door and shouts back at the officer.*

Criminal: We want a hundred grand for every hostage here. Until then, we’ll kill one every thirty minutes!

*Penrose realizes how much more serious things have gotten. He calmly picks up his car radio and calls into dispatch.*

Penrose: Armed robbers at Kay’s Jewelers have three hostages.

Dispatch: Understood. Other units are en route to the scene. Just attempt to stall for now.

*Penrose steps out of the car and walks around the back of the jewelry store. He attempts to open the back door, but finds it is barricaded from the inside.*

Penrose: Hmm...

*Penrose looks around, and sees a ladder that leads onto the roof. He walks over and climbs to the top. He spots a door on the roof that would lead inside before taking a pistol out of his coat.*

(Penrose): Gotta stay quiet.

*He opens this door and quietly walks inside. As he walks down a set of stairs into the store, he takes cover behind a counter so as to not be seen by the robbers and begins looking for a way to distract them. He raises his gun and shoots a display case near the robbers, which shatters, causing all of them to turn their attention to it.*

Criminal: What the f-

*Penrose shoots and kills two of the four robbers. The other two men then fire on Penrose, who takes cover behind the counter as it gets riddled with gunfire.*

(Penrose): Fuck!

*After a moment, Penrose hears a click coming from the criminal’s guns, signaling that they’re out of ammo. Penrose stands up ,shoots another one dead, and shoots the fourth in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground.*

Criminal: Ah!!!

*Penrose hurries to the front of the store, and unties the three hostages, who all run out of the store to the other officers. Penrose then raises his gun and points it at the criminal laying on the ground, who is grasping at his bleeding leg.*

Criminal: W-wait! Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot!

*Penrose motions his gun towards the front door, the criminal then stands as Penrose escorts him out of the building. Once outside Penrose sets the Criminal down onto the sidewalk as the other officers walk over.*

Officer 1: Nice work, Penrose. How’d you do that?

Penrose: Those guys were idiots. Didn’t take long.

Officer 2: So…

*The officer kneels down to the criminal, who’s still laying on the concrete.*

Officer 2: What are we gonna do with you?

Criminal: Fuck. You.

*The criminal spits on the officer’s shoe.*

Penrose: I’ve got an idea of what to do with him.
