My New Assistant

chapter 7

It's been 2 weeks since Carina and Maya got back from New York. They spent every night together while they were there. They had come to the agreement that they wouldn't say anything to anyone. Especially Andrew. Thing's were ok the first couple of days after they came back but recently Maya and Amelia had been hanging out a bit too much for Carina's liking. Carina knew that Maya and her weren't anything specific but she couldn't help but get jealous.

It got to the point where Carina would be short with Maya or she would not talk to her at all. Of course Maya would reassure her that her and Amelia were nothing more than friends but Carina was still bitter.

It was now Friday and Carina had back too back business meetings via zoom so she hardly had time leave her office. Just as she was finishing up a meeting there was a knock on the door.

"Come in." Carina called out not looking up from her computer.

"I brought you lunch. I know you've been doing meetings all morning." Maya said as she approached Carina's desk with a bag of food.

"You're a lifesaver Maya. Thanks." Carina said with a smile.

"Well I know how hangry you get without food so..." Maya said jokingly earning a glare from Carina.

"Take a seat." Carina said, pointing to the couch after a few seconds. Carina also sat down only after her assistant became situated. Carina sat on the edge of the piece of furniture, her hands placed on her knees which she ran back and forth. Was she nervous?

"I would like to apologise Maya." Carina said as she kept her eyes on her hands.

"Oh?" Maya said as she crossed one leg over the other and watched Carina and her demeanor. She was obviously nervous. But why?

"I apologise for being so annoyed with you. I have been having a hard time trying to figure out why I'm feeling the way I am when I see you with anyone else especially Amelia. Maybe it's because she's told you she has feelings for you but either way my behavior is unacceptable and I'm sorry."  Carina said as she remained with her eyes trained on the floor.

She could talk in front of a room with hundreds of people without getting nervous but sitting in her office trying to speak to Maya about her feelings? Carina felt small.

"That's okay." Maya said softly, scooting over so that she was closer to Carina before grabbing her hand.

"But Carina... I've told you many times Amelia is just a friend. I've told her already that I'm interested in someone else. That someone is you by the way so don't get all paranoid." Maya said with a small laugh earning a shoulder slap from Carina.

"I'm not paranoid... I'm just I don't know jealous I guess. I know we haven't officially said what we are but I don't want you with anyone else. Especially some who said they have feelings for you. I'm just afraid to lose you. Again." Carina said looking away from Maya.

"Correction she said she had a crush. She never said she had feelings... You're not going to lose me Carina. I promise." Maya said as she grabbed Carina's face gently so they could look at each other.

"Can I take you out to dinner tonight?" Carina mustered the courage to finally look at Maya. the nerves slowly beginning to pass.

"To dinner? Like a date? I thought we weren't going out in public." Maya questioned slowly, her head tilted to the side with a smile.

"Yes. A date. Don't worry I know a place where the media is not welcomed." Carina confirmed as she began to fiddle with her fingers. "After we finish today we can head over." Carina said looking up at Maya.

Maya remained quiet for a moment as she pondered the offer.

"Okay. You can take me out for dinner tonight. But, I don't want to wear my work clothes though." Maya said making Carina smile.
