"The interior yeah?! So you've never even seen the country side!" He yelled
By body tensed, "No sir! I have not sir!"
     "Your last name is L/n!?"
     "Yes sir!"
"Well I see we got a relative of a prodigy here!"
"Yes sir, I believe so sir!"
"Turn and face the next row!"
I turned around in unison with the rest of the people in my row. Man, that was scary, I mean I was used to people yelling in my face but the way he was yelling, I thought I was going to piss my pants.

It took about three hours for the instructor to get through everyone, I could see how everyone who got yelled at was shaken up. The sun was finally setting now, and everyone was exhausted. Either from traveling or being screamed at.

We all filled into the mess hall for dinner, it wasn't the best, but it was food. I sat in the table in the corner, I made sure to make lots of room for anyone who would want to sit with me. But no one did.

"She's from the inner wall, she probably thinks she's too good for us.." I heard someone whisper.
Did everyone seriously think I was some stuck up interior girl?

I noticed someone looking anxious about where to sit, so I was this as my perfect chance to try and make a friend.
"Hey!" I said with a smile as I waved to them, "come sit!"
I pointed to the seat next to me.
They had glasses, chocolate brown hair, and a big but oddly beautiful nose.
     "You mean me?" They asked.
I nodded with a big smile.
They returned my smile with an even bigger one. They hustled over and sat down right next to me without hesitation.

"I'm Hange Zoe! Nice to meet you...uh what was your name again?" They asked, their energy was something else.
"F/n, L/n. Nice to meet you too, Hange."
"Ohhhh so you're the one everyone's talking about!" They said in awe.
I feel like that was an exaggeration, I knew a few people were talking about me here and there, but everyone?
"What do you mean?" I asked as I took a bite of bread.

"The interior girl, the rich one. No one understands why you would even think about joining the military."
I sighed and took a sip of water, "I really just wanted to follow in my brothers footsteps, but I also wanted to take charge of my life for once."
Hange pat my shoulder, "I came for the same reason too, I mean I don't have a brother to follow, but I wanted to take charge too. I guess we have more in common than you think!"
I smiled warmly at them, "I suppose we do."

The next few weeks of training was something I never would've imagined. I thought we would be doing hard labor, like plowing fields or something, but I was actually surprised at all of the hands on training we did. Maybe that sounds dumb but I don't care.

The first real test the cadets had to partake in was balance. The main weapons/artillery the military uses is Omni-Directional Mobility gear, also known as ODM gear. To use it, you have to be able to balance in midair, only being held up by the wires.

I struggled with it of course, but I was surprised to see that it was actually easy for me to balance. I was so very proud of myself in that moment.
Hange and I have been hanging around together ever since the first night at the corps. I didn't know making a friend would be so easy, I fully expected to be left out the whole three years I would be here. I mean I know not everyone likes me very much.

I was also surprised to find out that Hange and I actually do have a few things in common, way more than I expected. It's like we came from two different worlds, but lived through the same experiences.

     "Line up!" The instructor yelled.
Hange and I rushed out of our barracks and got into formation. We all stood still in neat lines, making sure to salute.
"Today we will be doing something different, we will be doing hands on combat! Pick a partner!"

I heard quiet groans from my peers. I had never been in a physical fight before, but part of me was excited to see if I could actually fight with someone and win. Hange and I paired up together of course.

"Have you ever done this before?" Hange asked as they tossed me the wooden knife I would be using against them.
I held the handle of the knife tightly, "No, but I think I can figure it out." I said, although I wasn't too sure.

Hange looked to be in a fighting position now, their fists were held up in front of their face, and they looked to be studying my every move.
     "So...do I just attack you?" I asked.
Hange nodded, "Yeah, and I'll try to fend you off and take the knife."

I gripped the handle tighter. I then charged at them with full force, pushing the knife towards them with both of my hands.
As I was about to hit them, Hange ducked, casing me to miss their head and trip over my own feet. Hange swung me over their shoulder and then threw me to the ground, I landed straight on my back.
"Woah!" I said in awe as I sat up, "how did you do that?!"

Hange wiped their hands on their pants, "I somewhat learned how to fight back where I'm from. Not much though." They said with guilt as she helped me up.

"Look!" A voice said from next to us. It was Felix Abern. From what I've seen, he was the strongest out of all of us. And I mean by a land slide. He was tall, muscular, and just had an insane amount of strength.
"Should've guess the princess was gonna be a weakling! She lost to scrawny four eyes over there!" He bellowed.

I felt my face get hot, as now everyone in the corps was looking at laughing at me. Hange looked to be embarrassed too.
"Shut up Felix." Another person said as he came up behind him.

"What'd you say to me!" Felix growled as he turned all of his aggression towards the man behind him. The man in question was Miche Zacharius. From what I've seen he was nearly as strong as Felix.

"I told you to shut up, do your ears not work or something? Or does your ego make you deaf." He deadpanned as he walked past him.
He placed himself between us, his back turned to Hange and I. He was tall, way tall, probably about six or seven inches taller than me.
"You punk! You think protecting the weak makes you a good person or something?!" Felix yelled.

Miche just laughed at him, "You sound like an idiot, piss off already."
With that Felix spat at him and went back to fighting, everyone else that was watching soon returned to training as well.
"Thank you." I said with relief as I took a deep breath.

Miche turned to face us, "no problem, I hate that guy."
"Thanks Miche, we owe you one!" Hange said happily as they punched his shoulder.
"You don't know how to fight, do you." He said in a monotone voice, he was talking to me.
I looked away in embarrassment, "No. I don't."
"It's nothing to be embarrassed about, I'll teach you what you need to know."
I looked back at him with hopeful eyes, "you'd do that for me!?"

Miche just shrugged, the corner of his lips curved into a smirk, "yeah, of course."
