"Good morning everyone." I said in a monotone voice as I greeted my squad. They were prepping cargo and supplies for this mornings mission. The trouble making trio had yet to make an appearance.

     "Where's the rookies?" I asked, taking a look around the premises.
     Zunther and Fia glared at Felix.
     "I swear I woke them up." He said in a defensive tone.

     I shook my head in disappointment, "I can't trust you to do anything. That small brain of yours must be at its limit by now."
     "Sorry we're late!"
     I turned around to see Isabel, along with Farlan and Levi.

     I smiled warmly at them, "there you three are!"
     None of them made eye contact with me, Farlan and Isabel were looking at their feet, Levi was looking right past me.

     I cleared my throat, "a word, please," I said, "Fia, Felix, go help Hange with prepping too, Zunther I need you to go grab my...go grab my handkerchief."

     Fia and Felix made their way towards Hange, Zunther just stared at me with confusion.
     "Since when do you use a hanker-"
     "Just go!" I yelled.

      Once he was gone, I turned back to the trio.
     "What's up with you three. Still worried about what happened last night?" I asked, taking a step closer to them.

     I didn't get a response. That pissed me off.
     "If you guys don't straighten up I'll straighten you up myself, perhaps I'll feed you to the titans myself."
     Farlan and Isabel looked up with worry.
     Isabel grabbed onto my arm, "I don't want to get ea-!"

     "Then get ahold of yourself! If you three are still worrying about getting your citizenship, you won't be able to fight. Accept the fact that you three are scouts, for the time being at least."
     I turned my back to them, "I expect to come back with all six of my squad members.
Understand that runts?"

"Start opening the gate!" The commander yelled over the sound of the ringing church bell. Anytime the scouts were about to leave for a mission, the towns people would ring the church bell, the same for when we came back.

"Today we take another step forward!"
I gripped the reigns of my horse, I glanced around at all of my comrades. I knew this would be the last time I would be seeing many of their faces. But that's the reality of being in the corps. It's never a good idea to form strong relationships.

"Show me the fruits of your training! Show them what you're made for!"
The gates were now fully open, the breeze of the outside world, beyond the walls, blew against my face subtly.
"The 23rd mission beyond the wall shall now begin! Advance!"

As the formation began to move out towards the gate, I turned my head towards the rookies.
"Stay close to me. Once we get out into the full formation, everyone will be split out into teams. I'll be with you guys, you'll need someone with experience." I said as my horse advanced to a gallop. The three of them stayed close behind me.
Once the entirety of the scouts were outside of the walls, we began to spread out. Fia, Felix, and Zunther went the opposite way from me and the rookies.

"Woahhh!" Isabel said in awe as she looked up into the sky. I noticed that all three of them were looking up, their eyes wide, and their mouths gaping open.
     "Hey! Don't get distracted." I yelled at them, "even if they're big, titans can still sneak up on you."

     Isabel laughed at that, "if they sneak up on us! Well just kill them all! Right Bro!" She said as she looked to Levi for approval.
     "Idiot! Do you wanna be the first one to die?!" Levi said in response.
