One month later, the day of the expedition

Dear Calin,
Today I'm going out on what Erwin would describe as mission that will change the perspective of the world. Although I'm not entirely sure what he means by that, I assume it has something to do with Eren's titan power. I am on the fence about bringing the new recruits on a mission so soon after their enrollment, but I trust Erwin. Talk to you soon, brother.

     "Today commences the 57th expedition beyond the walls! Today we will forge a path to Shiganshina, and soon, retake our territory! Advance!"

     I gripped my reins hard as the gate opened, we went from standing still to a trot, then to a gallop, and soon enough the ruins of the villages inside wall Maria surrounded us.
     I was stationed with Levi's squad for this expedition, per Levi's request. I left Zunther in charge of my squad, which was stationed on the left wing.

      "Advance!" Erwin's voice boomed.
     There were titans all over the place, the support squads were taking care of it though. I kept my eyes forward; my only thought was of the future of this mission.

     As we approached the plains in front of us, we began to break out into our positions. Our long-ranged scouting formation. Going out on missions was much easier now that Erwin was in charge, instead of facing titans head on, we now would change course when a titan was spotted via flare.

     "Be on the lookout, you never know when a titan will show itself." Levi ordered as we rode at full speed.
     I nodded my head, "Eren, you remember the signals, right?" I asked.
     "Yes ma'am!" He said in response.
     Just then a red flare was shot into the air, it was by the upper part of the right flank.
     "Move left!" Levi shouted as he changed course, I along with everyone else did the same.

     We rode along for about an hour, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. We were in the safest position after all. My heart was pounding so loud I could barely hear anything going on around me. Erwin's plan was still fresh in my head, yet I still could not grasp the full of it. Were there really titan spies in our ranks? If so, who is it? Are there multiple people? What are their intentions? What do they plan to do? What will they-

     "Oi, F/n! You better not be stuck in your mind right now. I can't afford to lose you simply because you weren't paying attention!" Levi yelled at me.

     I met his eyes, he looked angry yet worried.
     "Sorry!" I said quickly as I looked forward.
     I saw as a bunch of green flares went up into the air. They were pointing the formation left, towards the large forest.
     "Green smoke signal. Looks like we're going off course." I said as I turned to Olou, "You fire it." I ordered.

     Olou nodded as he grabbed his flare gun and loaded it with a green flare, "Yes Captain!" He exclaimed as he shot the flare in the direction we were to go.

     Things seemed to be going smoothly so far, but I was sure that there had been casualties on the vanguard already. I couldn't sit too comfortably yet.
     "Reporting in!"
     Someone from the right flank rode up to us to relay a message.
     "The right flank has suffered heavy losses! Scouting ability has been hindered! Relay this to the left flank!"
