I sat gazing outside my third story window, my head rested in the palm of my hand, my eyes were hooded, and my mind was elsewhere. I watched the birds fly higher than the clouds and come right back down just to do it again, the trees blew softly and elegantly in the subtle breeze. I envied nature, it was so effortlessly peaceful and beautiful, I wish I could be nature."Milo," I said as I slowly lifted my head off of my now aching hand.
Milo was my personal butler; he had been since my birth. He went wherever I did, he was always six paces behind my left side, no matter what."Yes, lady F/n." He said in his usual robotic tone.
He was to address me as Lady F/n, or My Lady at all times, and he was to only speak when spoken to."Go and prepare my outing clothes, I'm going into town." I deadpanned as I closed the book placed on the table in front of me, I hadn't even bothered to read a whole page.
Reading was one of the only things I could do to keep myself busy, if not that then it would be eating myself to death, like my father.
Milo bowed, "Yes My Lady, right away."
It pissed me off how obedient he was, how all our servants were. I couldn't imagine dedicating myself to a single person, doing whatever I'm told no matter what it is. Horrible.Milo rang the bell that was right next to the doors to my room, he rang it three times. Like clockwork three of our maids filed in, they always walked in a coordinated manor, a straight line.
They walked over to my wardrobe and began to pull out one of my many dresses, a dirty maroon colored dress was the final choice, my favorite color. My least favorite part of getting dressed was the fact that I couldn't do it myself, even though my mother taught me how to tie a corset and a bodice by myself. The maids were in charge of undressing and dressing me, it was uncomfortable to say the least, but over my seventeen years of living I learned to bare it.
"All done, My Lady. The carriage has been prepared and is currently waiting outside for you."
I took a look at myself in the mirror for a second, then I began to make my way towards the front entrance of my home. My house was a labyrinth of polished marble hallways and dark wood doors, it was easy to get lost if you hadn't lived your entire life in it."Milo, why don't you stay here, ya?" I deadpanned as we finally reached the double doored entrance.
Milo sighed and looked down on me, "No can do, My Lady, I will not leave your side. Not for a second."Every time I told him to leave me alone, that was the response he gave me. Every. Single. Time. Not even the tone of his voice would change, it's like that response is etched into his brain.
I sighed and continued down the steps to the carriage, all of our carriages were a dark red with a gold trim, it was the color of the L/n family symbol.
The footman held out his hand for me to take and helped me into the carriage, Milo climbed in right after he shook the footman's hand.
I had to flatten my puffball of a dress to even sit comfortably, the price of beauty I was willing to pay."What do you reckon you'll do in town, My Lady." Milo said, interrupting my train of thought.
I turned my head to look out the window as the carriage began to move, "I'll probably just walk around, maybe buy some more books or art."
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Milo nod his head in approval of my plans.
