The day of the combat test was here, and it was safe to say that I was confident. As long as I wasn't put up against someone who was by far way stronger than me. Ever since Fia started teaching me her fighting technique I realized how good at it I really was. It was easy for me to determine someone's next move just by their body language.

I even managed to beat Miche and Hange, which was absolutely insane. Fia also became part of the group, but I could tell her and Miche weren't the best of friends. They managed though.
It made me so happy that I was part of a group. I never had any actual friends before, Milo was probably the only person I talked to on a daily basis. But look at me now, I have three whole friends.

"I'm so nervous for this test." I mumbled as I put my head down on the table Hange, Miche, Fia and I sat at.
"Come on it won't be that bad, you're totally badass now!" Hange said as they punched the air, mimicking my fighting style.

"But what if I lose! I won't be able to become a solider!" I whined. The fact that losing would cost me my spot as a solider shook me to my core. I had come so far, and I didn't want to lose it now.
"I wouldn't worry about that," Fia said as she took a bite of bread, "the test isn't based on winning or losing. It's how much of a fight you put up."

My head shot up from the table, "really?! That's a relief!" I said as I took a deep breath.
"Maybe so but being able to beat your opponent is important to. Don't slack just because you won't fail if you lose." Miche deadpanned.
     I clenched my fists together, "I won't!"

"Welcome cadets, to your final close combat training assessment!" The instructor yelled.
We all saluted him and continued to listen to what he had to say.

"You will be randomly matched with another person, and fight until one of you drops to the floor. You will not be matched based on skill, gender, weight, or anything like that. And because of that you won't be assessed on winning or losing, it's the fight you put up that matters."

I felt relief flow through my body, hearing the instructor confirm what Fia had said made me even more confident.
"Meet your barrack instructor to revive your sparring partner!"

Hange and I went to go find our instructor, along with all of our roommates. I prayed to get someone who I at least could put up some fight against. Even though I was getting better again fighting, I was still nowhere near Fias skill. She was truly amazing.

We all lined up one by one to receive our partner. And when it was finally my turn, my body was literally shaking.
"Who'd you get F/n?" Hange asked, "I got Miche, can you believe it!?" They said with a big smile.

I slowly unfolded the piece of paper that had been handed to me, please be someone easy, please be someone easy, PLEASE be someone easy.

"I got," when I read the name, I nearly threw up my breakfast, "I got Felix." I said in a defeated tone.
"Of course I got Felix! Just my luck!" I said angrily as I threw the piece of paper to the ground and stomped on it.

"Hey, it's okay, I'm sure you'll be able to put up a fight against him! You're way better now!"
Although Hanges words of encouragement were nice to hear, it didn't change the fact that I was about to get my ass handed to me on a silver platter. Of course, I had to fight Felix.
"Line up you piss drinkers!" The instructor yelled, "Find your sparring partner, we'll be doing this one by one!"

When I found Felix, he had a smug shit eating grin on his face. It was like he knew he was going to kick my ass.
"Isn't this a nice surprise. I'm sorry your majesty, but you're about to get absolutely destroyed on the floor out there!" He said with a manic laugh.

I glared up at him, "shut your mouth, I'm sick of your annoying ass voice."
"Ohhh? I see you got some fight in you now. You're still pathetic as ever though."
"Save the smack talk for the fight, would ya?" I teased, I wanted to get under his skin.
He put his hand on my shoulder, gripping it tightly, "know your place."
I shook off his hand, "trust me, I do."

It took about an hour for it to be my and Felix's turn, and I was still nervous as ever. We were supposed to fight each other in front of everyone. Hange and Miche already went, and although it was a close fight, Miche ultimately beat Hange in the end.

Felix and I walked onto the sparring grounds. I took a fighting stance, Felix just stood there unamused. I guess he was under the impression that he didn't even need to try to beat me, and maybe he was right, but I wasn't going to let him off that easy.

"Fight!" The instructor yelled.
Felix then charged at me with full force, his fist was up in the air. If I wasn't quick on my feet, he would've knocked me out right then and there. But Fia was a damn good teacher.

Right before his fist hit me square in the face, I ducked and tripped him with my foot. He didn't fall, but he stumped a bit. He looked back at me with rage in his eyes.

He ran at me once again; he looked like he indented to tackle me to the ground. I made sure to plant my feet apart, making my core strong. I wanted to absorb all the force he was about to hit me with.

As his head came close enough to my chest, I pushed it down. I held onto the back of his neck and moved my body away from his. I realized now that I had an open shot for his face. I swung my leg up and kicked him square in the jaw.

It wasn't a powerful kick; it definitely didn't send him flying like I wish it did. But it enraged him ever more. His desire to beat me was insanely strong.

"You fucking bitch!" He yelled as he grabbed my wrist. He yanked me towards him and punched right in the middle of my stomach.
I nearly threw up, but I needed to keep it in, I needed to get it together. I swung my hand up, my palm hitting the bottom of his nose. It got me out of his death grip.

He yelled out in agony as he held his now bleeding nose, I took this chance to try and shove him down. Even though he wasn't in any certain stance or even trying to stay up, I still couldn't get him on the ground. He only stumbled when I pushed him.

He took his hand away from his face and finally landed a full blow on me. He punched me right in the face, causing me to fall back on the ground. Even though I had put up a good fight against him, I still lost.

One of the medics that were on standby came rushing over to me. My left eye had become blot shot red, and my nose and lip started bleeding. My head felt like it was spinning.

"I'll get her to medical!" The medic told the instructor as he picked me up and swung me over his shoulder. I felt like I was going to puke.

When I opened my eyes, I was lying face up. I must've passed out because the last thing I remembered was Felix punching me in the face.
Hange, Miche, and Fia were all at my bedside. Hange was the only one who looked worried, the other two just sat with their eyes closed.
"There she is! You were so badass out there today!" Hange yelled as soon as they saw I was awake. My head throbbed hearing the loudness of their voice.

     "But I lost..." I mumbled.
"You passed; the instructor was impressed. Even Felix was impressed. But he was way angrier than impressed." Fia said with a smirk, "you put up a good fight against that asshole."
I smiled slightly as I close my eyes and relaxed my head once again, "looks like I'll become a solider after all."
