Chapter 29: Chance Encounter

Aiko was getting ready to leave the dorm for her meeting with Nighteye when a voice called out, "Wait up!"

Aiko turned to see Midoriya jogging toward her. "Oh hey, did you get a work study too?" Aiko asked.

"Yeah, with Sir Nighteye. I take it you also have one with him?" Midoriya asked.

Aiko nodded as the pair began to walk to the train station. "Is Haru here?" Midoriya asked.

Before Aiko could respond, Midoriya saw the lights of the train playfully flicker. "Ah, hello Haru," Midoriya said with a smile.

'Less than a year ago, people would be terrified of this... now I have friends who love Haru... and me...' Aiko thought, warmth blooming in her chest. She then smiled and asked, "So why are you working with Nighteye?"

"Well, he was All Might's sidekick years ago," Midoriya said.

"Ah, good connections I guess," Aiko remarked, "Well I'm glad we will be working together."

Midoriya flashed her a bright smile, "Yeah!"

The train arrived at their stop, so they walked off and approached Nighteye's agency to see Mirio waiting outside for them. He greeted them and said, "Alright, Aiko, Sir is already sold on sponsoring your work study, so you don't really have to do anything except get the contract signed. Midoriya, Sir's on the fence. If you want him to take you on, you need to make him laugh."

Aiko looked around and already felt small, the building full of sidekicks and others working for Nighteye. Then, as the group approached Nighteye's office, Aiko picked up on the sound of laughter. Mirio opened the door to reveal Nighteye tickle-torturing one of his sidekicks. Haru started dying in the doorway as Aiko struggled not to chuckle. Midoriya stepped forward, and to everyone's shock and horror, imitated All Might's face. Aiko felt herself shrink as Nigtheye turned around and started approaching the group. Nighteye started messing with Midoriya's face, critiquing it, but then Midoriya defended his expression, stating it was from a very specific incident. "Holy shit, I thought you were an obsessed fan girl, but you have NOTHING on him," Haru joked.

Aiko chuckled under her breath, "Yeah."

However, that caught Nighteye's attention. "Ah yes, Gessei. After I finish speaking to Midoriya, then I will speak to you," he said with a dry expression.

Aiko nodded and stepped out of the room with Mirio and Bubblegirl. Aiko nervously twiddled her thumbs as banging sounds echoed out of Nighteye's office. After a few minutes, a single loud bang sounded out, making Aiko very concerned, and so Aiko stood up and knocked on the door to see Nighteye's office an absolute mess. "I have decided to take him on. Gessei, bring me your contract, I will also be taking you on," he stated.

"Um... why are you taking me on without all of... this?" Aiko asked as she approached.

"Because I have been set on taking you on since the Sports Festival. I was impressed by your work and think you would be a valuable addition to my team," Nighteye stated concisely.

Aiko nodded as Haru said, "I told you that you are good at this shit!"

"Alright you three, we are doing an investigation into this man," Nighteye stated, pulling out a picture of a man with brown hair, golden eyes, and a red-gold plague doctor-esque mask, "Kai Chisaki, known as Overhaul. He's the young head of the Shie Hassaikai. Your job is to patrol, and if you see him, to keep an eye on him and report anything suspicious. Do not engage with him, we don't want him knowing that we are suspicious of him."
