Your parents arrived home early, giving you comfort and promising that Lydia will be back. Right now, they were making calls, trying to find some way for you to speak to Lydia. They knew just how much you missed her. You lay in bed, watching your ceiling fan slowly spin, listening to the sound of rain pounding against your window.
You looked down to where Freddy sat, his head was placed gently on top of your stomach while he held your hand. "I miss her..." You said, tearing up again. It had already been a little over a day since you found out about what had happened, the thought that Lydia could be removed from your life so easily pained you.
"I know, Cupcake..." Freddy said gently, giving your hand a light squeeze, "I know you do..." He looked into your glossy eyes, thinking about something. Freddy's ears shot up before he quickly walked back to his corner, by the time he'd gotten himself situated into his most convincing "I'm not sentient at all" position, you heard the sound of your parent's footsteps.
"Y/N!" Your mom called before opening the door. She sat on the edge of your bed, taking your hand, "Honey, you might not get to see Lydia for a little while but we're going to make sure she's proven innocent." You sat up, wiping your eyes, "How? They found a body in her yard!" You pointed it out.
Your mom sighed, "I know you're not very into legal deals and nonsense but if we're going to make sure she's proven innocent, we'll have to get a good lawyer..." You looked at her with confusion, "Well yeah, that makes sense, why are you saying it like that?" Your mom looked up and your dad as he leaned over before taking a knee.
"We're going to have to sell your robot." He said sternly, a tinge of sorrow in his voice. You looked over to Freddy, he was staring at you. His eyes weren't lit up but you knew he was listening. "But..." You stammered, "I've worked so hard on him..." You knew that wasn't the reason this hurt. You knew you were going to miss him.
"We know you worked hard on him, Y/N, and we're both so proud of you..." Your dad remarked, "But Lydia's safety is more valuable than an object." You looked down, would you really choose Freddy over Lydia? Even if you did, your parents wouldn't understand. To them, Lydia was like family.
They had let her live with them for a while after her parents died, even now, they still call her, making sure she's doing okay. You knew this was probably hard on them, but it was even harder on you. You had to choose between two of the people you valued most, even if one wasn't exactly human.
Your mom held your hand while your dad stood up. He walked over to Freddy and took pictures of him. You saw the way Freddy's eyes seemed to follow your dad, hell, they probably were. You knew Freddy was probably as unhappy with the situation as you. You breathed deeply, trying to compose yourself and clear your head.
You knew you couldn't live without Lydia but could you live without Freddy? You knew that answer, you had grown attached to him. You immersed yourself in your thoughts, trying to pry out a solution. Your mom kissed your head and then left with your dad, it seemed like they cared more about Lydia than you sometimes.
Freddy's eyes flickered on with the light shining directly at you. "You're just letting them take me?" He muttered with a look of confusion and hurt. "No!" You stood, walking up to him and allowing yourself to fall into his lap. "I don't want them to take you away but what choice do I have? Freddy, they don't understand..." You wiped your face again.
Freddy wrapped his arms around you, "So this is it... I'll be sold off again. Y/N do you know what they were going to do to me before you find me?" He questioned, "They were going to scrap you..." Freddy nodded, "And that's probably what'll happen to me." You looked away, scanning your room for ideas.
You found yourself staring at a shelf. It was mildly cluttered but what caught your eye was a book. "Steal" by James Patterson. Steal... You looked back at Freddy, "How long does it take to get something scrapped? " You asked, Freddy stared blankly for a moment. "Some people just crush up the metal, but around here they take their time, removing all valuable parts, it's a much more cost-efficient technique!"
You thought for a moment, "If I can get you back before you're scrapped then we'll have the lawyer and you!" You smiled, finding your idea clever. "Y/N, what if you're not quick enough? Then what happens?" You sighed, "Then I don't know but it's all we can do really." Freddy nodded, "I suppose you're right Y/N..."
A few hours later, you came down for dinner. You sat with your parents while you poked at your food. Your stomach churned with the fearful thoughts of Freddy being scrapped. The idea of him slowly being taken apart, feeling everything with none the wiser. Your mom turned to you, smiling.
"Sweetie, you haven't touched your food... We know you miss Lydia and are upset about selling your robot but we have some good news!" She leaned forward, putting herself on the edge of her seat. Your dad pulled up a series of messages on his phone between him and a man who was interested in Freddy.
"This will be perfect sweetie! He's interested in robotics just like you are! He runs a business with robots just like yours!" She smiled brightly. "Robots just like Freddy?" You questioned. She laughed, "I forgot you named it," she commented, "But yeah! Freddy would do more than just sit in a room, isn't that great?"
"I guess... How do you know he's not lying?" Your mom took a moment to scroll through the messages before stopping on an image with an address. "Circus Baby's Pizza World..." You stared confused, "Wasn't it closed because of a gas leak?" You asked, "How do you know about that?" She laughed again, "He's reopening the place! I guess it's like a nostalgia kick, but you'll still be able to see him!" You sighed, smiling to yourself a little. Maybe that'll be easier than you thought since you had the location.
You glanced at the messages one final time, reciting the address to yourself. As the phone screen darkened, you checked the name of who it was that was buying Freddy, his name was Dave Millier.
