Cold Winter (Cole x Kai)

It takes Two

At the table everyone was seated and seemed shocked. Garmadon brought the last dish in and put it on the table. „I hope you'll like it." He said with a smile. Nobody said a word and they just stared at the food. It looked surprisingly delicious. „Bon appetit!" Cole spoke and dug in right away. After him everyone stormed on the food. 

There were baked eggs with swiss Chard and green olives which caught Coles attention. Garmadon also made sour cream coffee cake with a coconut-speckled crumb topping. It was so moist and tender that when Lloyd bit in he felt the cake melt in his mouth. „I'm going to die" Lloyd murmured with a full mouth and eyes on the food. The grapefruit anide salad was taken by Wu. It had a juicy flavour which was unique and tasty. Nya and Jay shared a pancake together. It was funny to watch how they fed each other whilst giggling.

Kai on the other hand didn't touch the food. „Funny how you managed to do all that. Just a second ago you weren't even able to run the oven without causing a-" Kai was interrupted by Cole pushing him so he can get to the pancakes on the other side.

„I didn't make it alone. Misako helped me." Garmadon said. Lloyd and Wu stopped eating and looked at him. „Mom helped you? So she's here?" „Yes she will join any second. I didn't want to disappoint you so I asked her for some help." Garmadon answered a bit embarrassed but still proud that he managed to keep his promise to make breakfast.

At that moment Misako walked in. Lloyd stood up and went to give her a hug. „Thanks for the food Misako." Wu said and raised his spoon. Misako nodded and sat between Garmadon and Lloyd. Garmadon gave her a smooch on the cheek. „Yes thanks darling I couldn't have done it without you." Misako giggled at this gesture and kissed him back.

At the table all were chattering and eating. „So what are you gonna do later?" Cole asked curiously. „Me and Jay are going to watch a movie. I heard there is a good film running right now." Nya responded and gave Jay a flirtatious little nudge. Zane mentioned his father and how he wanted to visit him after cleaning up the table. Wu and Garmadon are going to a temple to discuss with the authorities about the last incidents. Lloyd wanted to spent some time with his mother and show her around Ninjago City. „I'm gonna watch my series of course." Kai said proudly. Cole admitted that he was gonna catch up on lost sleep since he wasn't able to sleep well lately. That means Kai and Cole are the only ones left alone in their home. Kai didn't mind at all. He didn't have any opportunities to just do nothing and hang out in their apartment so he was quite happy about that.

Now that everyone has left Kai went to the living room and turned on the tv. „Finally some peace." he thought to himself and put on the show he has been waiting to watch. The position he was in changed every second until he found the perfect laying position. He took the whole red couch for himself. This show was his favourite. He already watched the first season more than 5 times and now he can enjoy season 2 for the first time. It's about two friends against the world. It only takes two to be able to fight against everybody and everything. Full of action and tragedy exactly what Kai likes.

After some time Cole woke up. „Damn I slept for 5 hours" he realised. To know if someone has returned Cole went out of his room to check. Nobody was there except for Kai who was in the living room. Cole went in and seeing how Kai didn't react to him entering made him think he was that concentrated on his show. But when he got closer Cole realised that Kai fell asleep.

He bent over the couch to have a better look. Kais face was still facing the television and because the sofa wasn't big enough for him one arm and one leg were tangling down the sofa. His breath indicating that Kai is sleeping was soft and regular. Cole kept looking at him. He stared at him from head to toe. But then Kai suddenly moved which made Cole jump. „Mhh..cold..", Kai grumbled and started to rub his eyes.
„Cole? Are you awake already?" „Yes... I just got in here to see how you are doing." Cole answered still taken a back. „It's evening why isn't anyone here yet. I'll text my sis."

Cole went over and sat next to Kai. But before that he went to the closet and grabbed a blanket which he now threw over Kai. „Thanks buddy" „No prob" Cole responded. Now they're both on the sofa continuing the show. „These two..." Cole started to talk. „They're quite like us aren't they?" Cole stated with a bit of red in his face. He was talking about the two main characters of the show who had to survive in a ruined world.

„Yeah for real. Just a moment ago we were in a similar situation with all the bad stuff that was happening. But because we held together we were able to make it! That's the power of friendship I'd say." Kai answered and started laughing. Coles blush disappeared from this statement and he also started to laugh awkwardly. „Yeah, power of...friendship."

They continued to watch in silence without saying a word.
„It's getting colder" Kai whispered to himself. Cole overheard it and it made him worry. The fire ninja doesn't do well with the cold. Last winter Kai spent most of his time in the bounty next to the heater. He didn't like to go outside because he would get cold pretty easily. „But this time will be different..." Cole spoke to himself. „I'll make sure of it" Cole continued with determination. But for now Kai and Cole enjoyed the peace together whilst being warmly surrounded by the blanket

An hour later everyone returned and they went straight to bed. It was their first day after so long where nothing went wrong and they were amused by it. But all of them still exhausted by everything that happened need to rest for a bit longer. They deserve it after all.
