Cold Winter (Cole x Kai)

Pink

It was another day of successfully patrolling the city. The Ninjas returned home to rest since they were done with their duties. Kai was in his room continuing his show hoping he won't fall asleep this time. But instead he got interrupted by Lloyd who wanted to chill with him instead of training.

„Hasn't Sensei Wu instructed you to work on your techniques until dinner?" Kai sarcastically asked knowing very well that Lloyd was ditching. Lloyd begged him not to snitch because he really didn't feel like doing anything right now. „He keeps pressuring me Kai! I just returned from patrol, it was freezing outside and I'm all wet yet he still expects me to be ready for the next session. What's wrong with him?" Lloyd complained meanwhile Kai covered Lloyd with a blanket which made him resemble a Matryoshka doll.

Kai chuckled at this sight and also went under the blanket. „He just wants you to be strong and independent so you won't have to worry about any evil forces. But I understand that he can be... a bit too much. Nonetheless he is our Sensei and not to forget your uncle so we have to respect him."

Lloyd huffed knowing Kai was right but he still was mad. His sad mood was soon gone after Kai handed him some sweets over that he got from underneath the bed. „Don't tell Wu." Kai winked and gave him a handful. „As always." Lloyd replied with the cutest smile.

It happened occasionally that Lloyd was in Kais room just hanging around with him. This is why Kai always keeps a box full of sweets in case Lloyd came over.

Kai and Lloyd then talked about anything that came up to their mind and enjoyed their company. Later even Zane joined in who was only there to ask if Lloyd was training but he got pulled in and now he's forced to stay with them.

„But like seriously whenever I think of that day I feel like shit. I just really want to apologise man I don't know why I was acting up like that." Kai explained and he looked angry and disappointed. „I know Kai you have apologised more than enough. It did bother me at first because I was just so confused...but I'm glad you realised your mistake and made it up to me. That's all that matters." Zane promised he was fine now and that there was no reason to worry.

„But you're traumatised! You can't even wear anything pink!" Kai was referring to that day when he and the others made fun of Zane for wearing a pink apron. „Honestly man it looked great on you! We were just too naive to see that." Kai nodded and was genuinely thinking about it.

Zane couldn't take this conversation seriously and started laughing. Lloyd was confused since he wasn't part of the group yet when that happened but he's just glad to be here. Kai promised he'll make up to it because he felt so guilty for being such a bad friend at that day which Zane appreciated but he didn't feel like there was a need for it.

When it was time to eat the three boys got up and left for the kitchen. At the dining table everyone was seated and awaited the food that Jay prepared. What nobody understood though was Jay also sitting on the table waiting with them. „Weren't you the one who had to cook today?" Nya asked Jay confused because it had always been like that. „Yeah but I found a volunteer who'd take over because I'm too tired." Jay explained and played with his fork.

Everybody was there except for one person. „Oh no" Kai voiced out what everyone was thinking. With that Cole entered with a burned pot and a big smile. He put the heavy pot on the table making a loud noise and sat next to Kai and Zane. „Go on, eat." Cole spoke and served the food to everyone. „Is that...soup?" Kai asked and went in with his spoon only to let the substance run down into his plate again. „Out of dirt apparently." Lloyd added to which Wu looked at him disapprovingly.

„Everyone be thankful for the effort Cole has made to create such delightful food." Zane stated and started to dig in. „There's no way I'm eating that." Lloyd said and folded his arms. „I'm sorry Cole but I don't think I can eat that either. You know cooking isn't really your strength so why didn't you ask anyone for help?" Nya asked guilty for telling the truth but someone had to say something.

Cole didn't want to bother anyone which is why he didn't ask for help and for a moment he thought he might be able to do it by himself. „I mean it's supposed to be soup! I don't know why I wasn't able to do that." Cole surprised of himself for being so bad at this tried to explain his situation. „Well Cole isn't to blame here. As you all know Jay was the one who's responsible for feeding us today." Kai looked at the lightning boy who was hiding behind Coles accusations.

„Let's order some food!" Nya urged before a fight escalated. Lloyd lit up to this and was ready for some real food. „I want sushi!" „No let's get some pizza" „I want a side dish too."

They all were distracted by the catalog and discussed what they should get. Kai was looking at Cole who seemed down which was understandable. Everyone denied his food without even trying it. Kai thought that one taste won't kill him and he went for it.

It didn't kill him but it could poison him if he ate more of it is what he thought. „How is it?" Cole asked from the side stunned that Kai was the one who tried it. Kai was a picky eater and doesn't like to eat much. That's quite the opposite of Cole who loves to eat.

„Well, I won't lie to you. For that dish Gordon Ramsay would have closed up your restaurant and put a warning sign for radiation in front of it." Kai explained and played with the soup. „But with a little help from a friend the dish might turn edible and even tasty. So what do you say?" Kai asked and pointed the spoon at Cole. Cole laughed and agreed. „Let's get to it."

„But why would you put chocolate in it?" „I thought it'll give a sweet taste to the soup...but I guess it didn't work out." Cole tried to defend his decisions making them only seem more oddly. Kai was ready to keep the originality of Coles soup but he refused to put anything weird in it.

After almost an hour they made everyone gather around the table again. Kai didn't allow anyone to order anything because he didn't want them to eat to much unhealthy food especially his sister and Lloyd.

Cole and Kai entered the dining room with a normal looking pot but this entrance was even more bizarre than the first one. Everybody bursted out laughing and Zane looked astonished at the two boys. „What the hell are you wearing you two!" Jay cackled and chocked from too much laughing. „I thought you were ninjas so why are you dressed like princesses!" Lloyd continued and started hitting the table. „Guys not even I would wear that." Nya claimed and chortled loudly. Even sensei Wu was laughing almost crying.

„I don't know I think they look good in those pink aprons." Zane said and gave a sign for them so sit. „Yeah I quite like it. Never thought pink would look great on me." Cole joined in and looked at his apron. „It does look great on you. It makes your eye colour stand out." Kai explained to which Cole punched him playfully.

Everyone settled and started to eat and luckily this time the food was delicious. Cole promised he won't do anything alone in the kitchen again and Jay apologised for being careless. The night didn't end in a disaster after all.
