Cold Winter (Cole x Kai)

Details

Everyone was gathered in the spacious living room when Kai finally joined in. „Kai! Welcome to my home." Garmadon greeted and walked over to him. He put his hand on Kais shoulder leading him to sit down with the others on the sofas.

Kai annoyed by this gesture still obliged and went over to sit next to his sister. „I am very grateful that you agreed on helping me." He said with a smile and started to pour some tea for everyone.

„It's not like we had any talk in this." Jay whispered to Cole to which he had to agree. „May I ask what the problem is?" Lloyd asked straightforward and reached for his teacup.

Garmadon changed from a cheerful to a serious manner. He took a deep breath making everyone more attentive and curious. „For years this place has been perceived as dangerous for us humans and therefore the government prohibited access to it." Garmadon explained and took a sip of his tea. The ninjas weren't excited to know that it meant they were at a place that is considered unsafe.

„Well we are starting of good." Jay added sarcastically.

„Many have met an unfortunate event when entering this area and the once that survived weren't by their right mind anymore." A cold shiver ran down Coles back. „Why is he telling it like a horror story??" Cole thought while acting as if he didn't just get goosebumps from Garmadons story telling.

„Upon further investigation it was discovered that this place is close to a spirit realm opening making it vulnerable to evil spirits and other bad creatures." Garmadon paused for a moment before continuing. „I have to search for that tear in the atmosphere so that I can close it. But it's quite dangerous which is why I asked for your assistance."

„Wait wait wait! Spirits? So in other words..." Cole hesitated and was fidgeting with his fingers. „Ghosts." Garmadon finished Coles sentence making Cole feel light headed and sweaty. He was crying in the inside not ready to face real ghosts.

Zane ignored the scared Cole and went back to the topic. „To my calculations this area your talking about is a forest approximately 5000 square kilometres." „Yes it's a great number so we have to split to not lose any time." Garmadon responded.

„We are in this forest right now so doesn't that mean we have to be careful even in your house?" Kai asked making the others feel uneasy. Cole glanced behind him right after that statement just to be sure no one was there.

Garmadon shook his head. „You don't have to worry about that. I've put a protection barrier around the house. There will be occasions where you might see or hear something but these things are harmless." He assured but that promise didn't satisfy anyone.

It was late and after eating something little together everyone went to bed. The ninjas shared a room together while Nya got her own one. For Lloyd, Garmadon prepared a whole room for him so that they didn't have to squeeze themselves in one but everyone knew Garmadon was actually playing favourites.

„Just because he's his son." Jay huffed angrily while trying to get comfortable in his tiny bed. That's when he noticed Kai walking out the room with his pillow in hand. „Where are you going?" Zane asked looking up from his laying position. „I'll sneak into Lloyds room. There's no way I'm gonna be able to sleep like that. It gives me ptsd." Kai declared and walked away.

This left the other three silent for a moment before they started laughing. „I still remember how little space we had just like now." Jay laughed at the memories of them all sleeping together in one room in the monastery. „Yes, I remember how no one could sleep because of your annoying snoring..." Zane brought back a memory of that time. „Oh well at least I wasn't so deep in slumber that the others had to wake me up for hours." Jay defended himself and looked over to Cole. „Oh- this was nothing compared to the constant sleep walking Zane would do!" „That's just my system rebooting. It's not under my control!"

They all started cracking up again from those hilarious moments. „But no seriously the worst part of that time was Kai moving around non stop. He would do that before anyone falls asleep forcing us all to listen to his turning and tossing in his bed." Cole mentioned the thing he hated most at that time. „Oh my lightning! Because of him I would stay awake even though I'm dead!" Jay getting angry from this memory stood up and went for the door.

„And where are you going?" Zane asked Jay who was about to leave. „To Nya. This way we are equally divided into 3 pairs." Jay answered and left in a hurry happy he can sleep next to his lover.

That night everyone slept like a bear in its winter hibernation except for the fire ninja. He kept hearing someone's footsteps walking around the room or knocking on surfaces. Kai wouldn't get scared from this but it affected his sleep. „At least someone's sleeping through it." Kai thought and looked over to Lloyd who was dead asleep face palmed in his pillow and his arm in his face. Kai chuckled by the sight and maliciously took a photo of him.

Kai has whole albums for every ninja full of funny and embarrassing photos just so that he can make fun of them. But he also loves to take pictures to capture the moments so they won't be forgotten.

When it was morning and time to wake up Kai finally managed to fall asleep. Lloyd woke up to the sight of another person sleeping next to him. His eyes widened and he froze up looking at the unrecognisable person that was hiding under the blankets. Lloyd was already asleep when Kai entered his room so he wouldn't know it was Kai.

Lloyd eventually had the courage to move and he went straight to the door and out of the room. Outside he leaned on the closed door and he started breathing heavily. „Lloyd what's wrong?" A deep voice asked and to his luck it belonged to Cole. He was on the other side of the corridor and began to walk towards him.

„There...is..a.person in my..bed." Lloyd slowly explained still weirded out by this situation. Coles heart dropped and he felt like he was going to collapse. „Keep it together Cole! Keep it together!" Cole talked to himself not wanting to appear like a scarily cat in front of Lloyd.

Cole didn't want to check but he gave up when Lloyd looked at him with those puppy eyes pleading for help. „Don't worry I'll take a look at it." Cole reassured making Lloyd light up.

The door opened and Cole entered with his weapon in hand. Lloyd was right behind him coming along because of curiosity. When Cole got to the by the person occupied side of the bed he slowly pushed the sheets down with his weapon.

He was as far away as possible from this person and was holding it together so he wouldn't scream. But to his surprise it wasn't a pale little girl or a disgusting slime creature. Cole sighed in relief when finding out it was Kai all along.

Lloyd also breathed out and started laughing because of this scene. Cole on the other hand was silent and he had an eager expression. He couldn't look away from Kai who was snuggled up in his sheets making Cole blush. No matter how angry he is it seems like he will never get over him.

Kai who couldn't stay asleep because of Cole and Lloyd making noise opened one eye to peak at the noise maker. But seeing Cole in front of him Kai couldn't help it but smile at him. He fell asleep right after feeling at ease knowing that Cole is right next to him.
