Cold Winter (Cole x Kai)

Payback

It was another calm morning with almost nobody at home. Kai left his room to get something to eat and was greeted by Lloyd eating the soup from yesterday for breakfast. This made Kais stomach turn and he left the kitchen without saying a word.

The living room was a mess because Nya has been working on her samurai suit there. She left parts and paperwork all over the ground , the sofa and even on the tv. There was no way Kai was able to even enter without knocking some stuff off so he chose not to go in.

There was something else he wanted to do anyways and he went to the corridor that led to the bedrooms. Cole wasn't present for he had to go to his part-time job as a bodyguard. This was the perfect opportunity for Kai to enter Coles room without him noticing.

Kai opened Coles door and looked around for anyone that might be watching before entering. It was all clear and safe. In Coles room Kai went over to the side of his bed where he knocked a picture over some days ago.

He looked over to the drawer rethinking his decision but chose to do it anyways. He opened the drawer revealing the broken frame with the picture of Cole with his parents. Hesitant Kai took out the picture and put it on the bed. He then held up a new frame he had brought with him so that he can replace the broken one and put it to the side. Now all he had to do was take the picture out of the broken frame and put it in the new one.

With care Kai slid the picture out of the old frame which disclosed another picture hidden behind it. Kai with no bad intend but curiosity grabbed the other photo to have a look at it. He couldn't believe what he saw. „That's...me?" Kai spoke to himself irritated to why Cole has an picture of him.

This picture was taken right after they defeated the Great Devourer. At that time everyone was cheering and the press was taking pictures of the ninjas. In this picture Kai was standing in front of the big snake all sweaty and tired and his gi was ripped and dirty but he had a bright smile that would make anyone fall over heels for him.

It was a very liked picture by Kais fans for a really long time. But why would Cole have such a picture of him Kai wondered.
The fact that Cole got so angry when Kai broke the frame was because he didn't want him to see his own picture.

„He constantly teases me, nags and worries about me, I always catch him stare...the blushing...his actions." Kai stopped talking and started to turn red. He remembered whenever Cole would have his attention on Kai.

Whenever Kai felt sick or tired Cole was the first one to notice. He would do so much for him even when Kai is being mean to him. He let so many things slide that Kai did to him and wouldn't take stuff that Kai says personally. He was always there for him. But not only is Cole very caring but also very attentive.

The many moments when he stared at Kais body wether it was that scene when he fell in the shower or when he put on Coles sweater or any other time where Cole just looked at him for a long period of time. Also whenever he got all touchy for example when they spilt the popcorn or...

„The kiss-" Kai breathed out with eyes wide open. He wasn't sure if that kiss really had happened because he was really sick and gone at that moment. But looking at the whole picture Kai started to believe it to be true.

Even though Kai is still in denial deep down he knows that there is something to it. And truth to be told Kai didn't mind if all this were to be true.

His cheeks were burning from all those thoughts and he just wanted to crawl under the bed and never get out. But he doesn't want to have his hopes up for nothing. If all this was just a play in Kais head that would be really pathetic.

Kai decided that he has to find out or he'll be forever haunted by mixed feelings. But for now all he had to do is replace the photo. „Wait no...that's too weird." Kai concluded it would be best to leave the new frame on Coles bed and to return the old in its original form back into the drawer. He didn't want Cole to know that he saw the picture. Not only is that embarrassing but Cole might not trust Kai ever again if he finds out that Kai was snooping around.

With that Kais mission was at its end so he left the room with a lot of mussy emotions. He went back to the kitchen only to see Zane had joined Lloyd with the soup eating. „Kai, come sit down and have a bowl. It tastes even better than yesterday." Zane exclaimed and waved for Kai.

The fire boy left without saying a word trying not to gag in the morning. He walked by the living room and glanced in only to see a sleeping Nya surrounded by metal parts. He carefully walked to her to put a blanket over her but to his surprise there was Jay with the same intentions.

Both boys with blankets in their hands stared at each other. After making sure Nya was snuggled in they went out the living room and closed the door. „Listen Kai I am aware that I angered you that time but I didn't do anything wrong. Nya is the love of my life and by the future we will be married and live a happy life with two kids and maybe one dog named Bold and we will have a company together called-"

„Jay, what's your point?" Kai interrupted the dreamy blue ninja and shrugged his arms judgmentally. „What I'm trying to say is I love Nya and I want you to understand that I'm ready to do anything for this love to keep burning...even if it means you won't like it." Jay said in a spiteful manner.

When a promise is made one should have the intend to keep it but for Kai at that moment he realised he couldn't keep it. For that he was sorry towards Nya but not regretful.
