Chapter 8

We pulled up to the club.

"Wow it's packed tonight." I said, looking at all the kids in the club. I turned to look at Destery. He seemed a bit nervous, like he regretted agreeing to come. I gently put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed.

"Don't worry. You're going to have fun!"

He smiled. Damn his smile was so incredible. We got out of the car and stood in line with the rest. I could feel his eyes on me. I turn my head slightly to the left, oh yea Destery was checking me out. I watched him as his eyes trailed up and down my body.

"Um, can I help you?" I said sarcastically.

Destery jumped, quickly looking away as he got caught.

"Sorry." He said, "You look really nice by the way."

I shyly smiled, blushing as I turned away.

"Thanks."

"Hey! Move it you two! You're next!"

I hadn't realized it was our turn. We paid and strolled in. Destery's arm brushed against mine, giving me goose bumps.

"Wow."

I turned to see Destery, wide eyed and mesmerized by the inside of the club. It was very pretty tonight. There were white Christmas lights hanging from the ceiling, shining and sparking like stars. There were stars taped to the walls, and glitter littered the floor. Some sort of cloth draped on the walls in the color black, making it look like the night sky.

I looked to my right, a poster reading starry night.

"The theme is starry night." I said, turning towards Destery.

"How romantic." He said, winking at me.

Once again I blushed at his comment, looking forward. I walked to a table and set my belongings down. I looked around, the place was so crowded. Teens on the dance floor, bumping and grinding and having a blast. Teens sitting at the "bar" sipping their drinks, laughing and having a good time.

I jumped as someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to see Destery standing behind me.

"Wanna dance?"

I hesitated, studying his face. He seemed eager to dance and eager to have some fun. I smiled at him, nodding.

I let him grab my hand and lead me onto the dance floor. Pushing through all the sweaty bodies. We got to the middle and started to dance. Throwing our hands in the air. I didn't care and I let loose. I'm not the best dancer in the world, but when I looked at Destery he was staring, eyes wide and mouth open.

I just laughed and kept dancing. At one point I felt hands slip around my waist. I jumped and turned to see who was behind me. I didn't know the guy, but he seemed to be enjoying having his hands all over me.

"Excuse me, but can you not?"

I shoved his hands aside, trying to get away.

"Aw come on baby, dance with me."

He grinned, which kind of frightened me. I shook my head and shoved his hands away. I started to walk away but he grabbed my wrists.

"Dance dirty, baby."

"Let go of me!"

His grip on my wrist tightened, his eyes getting mean.

"Ow, you're hurting me! Let go!" I yelled.

All of a sudden his grip on my wrist disappeared. I looked to see Destery dragging the guy by his shirt. I pushed through the crowd, trying to get to them. Destery threw him down on a seat.

"If you ever touch Bay again I swear I will beat your ass. Understand?"

The guy grinned, swiping Destery's hands away, clearly not threatened.

"Yeah, whatever." The guy said, annoyed. He got up and walked away. He bumped into Destery's shoulder, disappearing into the crowd.

Destery turned to me, before he could say anything I threw my arms around him.

"Thank you." I whispered.

He hugged me back tightly, "You're welcome. I'll always protect you."

I pulled away, feeling my cheeks getting hot. I looked at the ground, playing with my hands.

"So, can I buy you a drink?" He asked, laughing a little.

I looked at him and smiled.

"Sure."

********

Destery's POV.

I didn't know what came over me when that guy had his hands on Bay. Maybe it was how frightened she looked that had got me wound up.

We got to the "bar" and I order us two chocolate shakes. We talked and laughed, sipping at our drinks. The night dragged on and the dancing kept going. A slow song came on. I looked at Bay. She looked so beautiful under the dim lighting. Her eyes twinkling from the white Christmas lights, she was practically glowing.

Before I knew what I was doing it was to late. The words slipped out of my mouth.

"Will you dance with me?"

She looked at me, sorta shy looking. It was a few seconds before she answered with a nod. I took her hand, her skin warm against mine, and lead her to the dance floor.

When we got to the middle and I guided her hands to my shoulders. I gently wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her close. We slowly swayed back and forth. At one point she put her head on my left shoulder. I felt her smiling, wrapping her arms around my neck, gripping me tighter.

I know I just met her, but I did feel something for her. I didn't know what it was, but it was good. I felt the need to have her in my arms and protect her from anything and anyone out to harm her.

The song ended and we pulled apart. We went back to the "bar" and finished our drinks. My arms felt empty, begging to feel her warmth again, but I didn't want to scare her or weird her out.

For the rest of the night we drank some more shakes and a couple Shirley Temples and danced.

When we finally left the club it was about 11 O'clock. Out if the corner of my eye I saw Bay had fallen asleep. Her head rested up against the window, all curled up in the seat. I smiled.

She looked so cute. I didn't want to wake her.

I shook her gently.

"Bay." I whispered, not wanting to frighten her. "Bay you're home."

She slowly opened her eyes, looking around. She sat up, stretched and yawned. I walked her to the door. She hung her arm around my neck, clearly still half asleep.

Once at her door she looked at me.

"Thank you. I had a great night." She smiled sleepily.

"You're welcome, I, myself had a good night." I returned the smile.

She nodded and unlocked her front door. I started to walk away when she called my name. I turned to look at her beautiful face. God she was so gorgeous under the moon light.

"Thanks for taking care of that creep." She said.

I smiled, "Anything for you Bay."

She shyly smiled and closed the door. I heard the click of the lock and walked to my car. I couldn't get Bay out of my head as I drove home.

Once home, I walked in to see Haley and Nathan passed out on the couch, wrapped in each others arms. I tip toed passed them and quietly closed my bedroom door. I lied awake for a few hours thinking about Bay and how perfect she was. I finally fell into a deep sleep. Tomorrow I start school, and I hoped it wouldn't suck.
