𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐄𝐘
For the past five years, I've managed to avoid him. I've managed to forget about him and move on from him. Mostly. Alex Lancaster and I have history, but nothing will ever change between us.
At least until he shows up at my dad's work...

SIX YEARS, FOUR MONTHS, AND THREE DAYS AGO
I plop down at the lunch table with Theo and Lucas, along with a few other friends, Daniel, his girlfriend, Lanie, and Ben.
"Hey, man." Theo greets, stuffing his face with fries.
"Hey, what's up?" I ask, nodding my head to him.
"Not much." I nod again, finding my gaze drifting. A few tables behind and over is where she sits, slouched, playing with her food, in leggings and an oversized hoodie.
Lindsey Hayes. Daughter of infamous lawyer and the most well-known girl in school. Both because of her family and her personality. Although, when her sister died, she fell apart.
She wasn't popular for being herself anymore, she was popular because of her sister.
I've never cared for any of it. I never met her sister, and I never wanted to. I wanted to meet her.
"Hey," A fry hits me in my face, and I turn back. "Don't ask me a question if you're not gonna listen." He scowls.
"He's too busy admiring his love from afar." Lucas chimes in.
"Oh, shut up." I elbow him in the arm.
"When are you ever going to man up and ask her out?" Ben asks, stuffing a nugget in his mouth.
It's a very good question. I can never grow the balls to actually go over there and talk to her. I always get nervous and stop half-way through. Not that they need to know that.
"I'm going to. Just not now." I glance behind me again.
It's a rumor around school that after her sister died, she fell into depression. And I'm beginning to think it's true.
"I'm gonna go talk to her." I announce.
"No!" All three of them yell.
But I'm already pushing myself up, strolling toward her table. As soon as I sit down, she's rolling her eyes, pushing herself to her feet and hauling her bag onto her shoulder. She tosses her uneaten lunch in the trash and pushes open the doors to the lunchroom, walking out.
"Okay..." I mumble to myself. She doesn't seem to want company, but I won't give up. Maybe she's just not a social person.
I don't chase after her, but I do find her sitting in the back of CCP English. The seat beside her is open and I decide to take my chance.
I plop down beside her and I hear her lips smack together in aggravation. The class starts and I turn to her with a smile. "I'm Alex." Her eyes do a once over before she's turning back to the board. "This is supposed to be the part where you tell me your name."
"Sure you don't know it? Everybody else sure as hell does." She comments, crossing her arms.
