When I finally come to, I wake up to darkness

When I finally come to, I wake up to darkness. I move my hands to my face, finding an eye mask resting over my eyes. I take it off, wincing against the bright light streaming into the car I realize I'm sitting in.

I look around, tired and confused. I sit up from the window, wiping my face and grimacing when I feel drool on my chin.

"Where am I?" I mumble, adjusting to sit up properly.

"Arizona." My head rolls against the headrest, finding Alex in the driver's seat. "You were sound asleep, so I didn't bother waking you up."

"What time is it?" I start searching for my phone, but I can't feel it on me.

"About eleven AM." He answers.

I yawn. "Did you get any sleep?"

"I got a little sleep on the plane." He replies.

I rub my face, tired. "How long till we get there?"

"About twenty minutes." I nod.

I continue to look for my phone. "Where's my phone?" He hands it to me. "Oh, thanks." I murmur. He nods and we ride in silence, aside from the soft sound of the radio.

Alex pulls into the driveway of a beautiful suburban home mixed with I think a farmhouse style. There's two porches, one wrapping around the front to the side of the house with stairs on either side.

There are multiple other cars in the driveway. I'm assuming his parents.

As we climb out, an elderly woman steps out. "Oh, Alex!" She's wearing a knit cardigan, that she wraps around herself, and she walks down the steps toward us, her arms out and open.

Alex smiles. "Hi, Ma." He walks to her, their arms wrapping around each other. "How are you?" I hear him ask as I walk to the trunk, grabbing my suitcase.

"I'm so glad you're home. Your father is getting your room situated as we speak." She laughs lightly as I walk toward the door. Her eyes snag on me and a soft smile flits onto her lips. "Oh, you grew up beautiful."

I smile slightly. "Uhm...thank you."

"It's no wonder Alex decided to date you." She brushes my hair behind my ear and smiles.

"Mom, come on." Alex groans.

"Relax. I'm just stating the obvious." She wraps her cardigan around herself, crossing her arms against the cool breeze. "Come on, I'll show you two your room."

The door opens again as we begin to step up the porch. "Oh, my god! Alex, is that you?!" A girl squeals. I freeze, not because she immediately hugs Alex with a grin on her face, but because, for a split second, I thought I was looking at myself.

But then she pulls away and I notice her eyes are much larger, her lips are thinner, and she's wearing jean shorts, a white tank top, and an orange flannel jacket with a pair of cowgirl boots.
