𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐄𝐘
For the past five years, I've managed to avoid him. I've managed to forget about him and move on from him. Mostly. Alex Lancaster and I have history, but nothing will ever change between us.
At least until he shows up at my dad's work...

Her words echo in my head, long after she's gone.
I'm broken...
It hurts me to think that that's how she views herself, but I can't change it. No matter how much I want to.
My phone rings and I slowly drag my eyes from the street to answer it. "Hello?"
"You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend!" My little sister squeals into the phone. I can practically hear her grin.
"Well, you haven't called me, so I haven't called you." I state, stuffing my hand into the pocket of my jeans.
"You also didn't tell me that you're dating Lindsey Hayes." I sigh. I knew this was comin' at some point. "The very girl you spent all of high school pining over."
"I did not." I argue.
"Liar, liar, pants on fire." She sings through the phone.
"What are you, five?" I scowl.
"Come onnn, Alex. Admit it. You've been smitten with her since grade six." She teases. "I'm just surprised it took you this long." I roll my eyes.
"Can we just pretend this never happened? Please?"
"Hell, no!" She snorts. "This is karma for not telling me your new girl. Is it serious this time?"
I sigh. "I don't know yet."
"How can you not know? It should be simple—"
"Amelia, just leave it alone. I don't know yet, but I promise I will tell you when I know." I reassure her.
She's quiet on the other line before she sighs. "Okay. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed."
"It's fine." I whisper. I glance back and find Naomi still sitting inside the café. I thought she would've left by now. "Hey, I'm gonna call you back later."
"Okay. But you better actually call me this time." She tells me sternly.
"Yeah, goodbye."
"Bye." She laughs, then hangs up.
Naomi doesn't notice I'm standing there until I speak, "I thought you left."
She looks up from the spot on the table and shakes her head. "Nope. I still had some things to ask you."
"Is that so?" I raise a brow while also reclaiming my seat. Hopefully, no fans are going to bother me this time. "Well," I shrug, holding my arms out. "Ask away."
"Why does she hate you so much?" Wow. Jump right into it, why don't we?
I inhale, trying to figure out what to say that won't piss Lindsey off even more than she already is. "To be honest, I don't even know."
"Well, you had to do something. I mean, she's making you out to be the bad guy." Her brows crease.
I nod. "Maybe to her I am." I shrug. "She hates letting herself be vulnerable, even more when she's with me."
