The early morning light seeped through the cracks in Y/N's hut, casting a soft glow on the room. Stirring from her slumber, she felt a gentle shaking, and her eyes slowly fluttered open. Gally stood by the bedside, a concerned expression on his face as he roused her from her sleep.
"Alby's calling a meeting in the council hall," Gally informed her in a hushed tone, careful not to disturb the sleeping figure nestled beside her.
Y/N nodded, instantly alert as the information registered. Gently slipping out of bed, she cast a glance at Eleanor, the young girl still wrapped in the embrace of dreams. Y/N moved quietly, taking care not to wake her, and followed Gally out of the hut.
The morning air greeted them as they made their way to the council hall, the atmosphere in the glade still hushed with the remnants of dawn. As they entered the hall, Y/N saw the other keepers already gathered, their expressions a mix of curiosity and anticipation.
Standing at the head of the hall, Alby beckoned them to join. Y/N and Gally took their places among the assembled keepers, their presence adding to the gravity of the impending discussion.
Alby's gaze was sombre as he addressed the assembled group. His voice rang out with authority as he broached the topic of the newest addition to their community.
"Thank you all for coming," Alby began, his voice carrying a solemn tone. "As you know, we have a new arrival in the glade. It's our responsibility to ensure her safety and well-being as she adjusts to life in the glade. With her arrival, we will need to implement new rules to protect her within the confines of the glade."
Y/N, her heart already filled with a sense of responsibility towards the young girl, spoke up without hesitation. "I can take care of Eleanor for now," she offered, her voice steady with determination. "I'll teach her the ways of the glade and help her adjust to her new surroundings."
Sensing Y/N's determination, Gally offered his support with a reassuring squeeze of her hand. The other Keepers nodded in agreement, acknowledging Y/N's commitment to guiding Eleanor through her transition into the glade.
"I appreciate your willingness to help, Y/N," Alby acknowledged. "It's crucial for Eleanor to have someone to guide her in the early days. However, we need to be cautious. This glade can be dangerous, and we can't afford any mishaps."
Y/N nodded in understanding, her determination unwavering. "I'll make sure she knows the risks and the rules. Once she's familiar with everything, we can gradually let her explore on her own."
However, Minho, ever the pragmatic voice of reason, raised a concern. "I don't like the idea of leaving Eleanor unsupervised," he interjected, his brow furrowed with worry. "What if she wanders off and ends up in the maze?"
Gally, ever pragmatic, immediately responded, "Then we give her a job. Keep her busy, and she won't have time to wander off."
Y/N raised an eyebrow, sceptical. "A job? Gally, she's just a child. She's too young for that."
Gally shrugged, "Well, we can't have her getting lost in the maze, can we? A job will keep her occupied and safe."
Newt chimed in, adding his perspective to the conversation. "Maybe we don't give her an official job, but we all keep an eye on her when she's in the glade. And Y/N, you'll be responsible for her."
Y/N glanced at Newt. "Me? Why me?"
Newt smirked, "Well, you're the only girl in the glade, and you seem to have a way with her. Plus, you're her 'big sister' now, aren't you?"
Gally added with a teasing grin, "Looks like you're getting a promotion, Y/N."
Alby, who had been observing the conversation with a thoughtful expression, stepped forward. "Alright then, it's settled. Y/N will be Eleanor's caretaker. You're excused from your job whenever she needs you, understood?"
