Chapter XLIV

As the meeting concluded, Mitsuya walked toward Taiju's residence and, accompanied by Hakkai. However, a palpable tension hung in the air as Hakkai, aware of his brother's capabilities, couldn't suppress his nervousness.

" Taka-chan". Hakkai called out.

Mitsuya turned around, raising an eyebrow," Huh ?".

" Maybe meeting Taiju isn't the best idea. Whatever you say won't end well; he's a real piece of shit". Hakkai cautioned.

" Quit trying to handle everything on your own. By the way, why are they tagging along ?". Mitsuya asked, noticing Chifuyu and Takemichi following them.

" What ? I was there when it happened". Takemichi defended, pointing to himself.

" I'm keeping an eye on him. He's a moron, you see". Chifuyu added, gesturing toward Takemichi.

" Hey ! Who are you calling a moron ?! I haven't forgotten about your terrible plan !". Takemichi retorted.

Chifuyu chuckled," Isn't this a good result, though ?".

Mitsuya grinned, feeling a mild sense of resignation," Eh... Oh well".

Hakkai remained silent for the rest of the way, and the group soon arrived at their destination. Taiju lounged nonchalantly on a sofa, his feet casually on the table, with Kokonoi and Inui standing guard behind him.

" It's nice to meet you, Taiju-kun". Mitsuya greeted, taking the opposite seat.

" You're that Mitsuya guy who's been messing with my little bro !". Taiju accused angrily.

Mitsuya smiled, seemingly unfazed," Quite the accusation".

" I'll kill you. By the way, where's that girl ? The one who brought me to my knee". Taiju demanded.

" Not here". Mitsuya replied sternly.

Taiju scoffed," Doesn't matter. I was impressed that she managed that, and I'm sure she did something to me. Almost like a witch, that bitch".

This revelation made Takemichi and Chifuyu tense up, while Mitsuya glared at Taiju with intensity.

" Hey, Koko, she's the one you had in that bar, right ? The one you talked about ?". Taiju inquired.

Kokonoi nodded," I don't remember much, but I remember her face well".

Maintaining a blank expression, Mitsuya fought the urge to retaliate, keeping his focus on the purpose of his visit.

A tense silence enveloped the room as everyone stared at each other with disdain.

" So ? What did you want to tell me ? Better keep it short". Taiju urged.

" I'll give Hakkai to the Black Dragons. I won't see him again". Mitsuya declared, catching everyone by surprise.

" What ? You can't be serious, Mitsuya-kun !". Takemichi exclaimed.

" Now that's amusing. Didn't you come here to prevent that ?". Taiju laughed.

" In exchange, set Yuzuha free". Mitsuya continued.

Taiju's eyes twitched angrily at the demand.

" Taka-chan... Why are you doing this ?". Hakkai's voice trailed off.

But Mitsuya pressed on," Taiju-kun, you're making Yuzuha do something, aren't you ? Hakkai's been protecting her from domestic violence all this time".

Takemichi's eyes widened," What ?".

" What a joke !". Taiju exclaimed with a sardonic grin.

" Hakkai's not leaving Toman because he's scared of you. He's doing it to protect Yuzuha !". Mitsuya stated.
