Astrid's shooting star wasn't a shooting star. It was an escape pod from the Ark. So much for her wish. With Octavia at her side, she sprinted to find Bellamy, who walked out with two half naked girls and a pleasurable smirk on his face. Cocky bastard. It didn't take long after that to organize a party to go after it. Of course, Bellamy insisted on waiting until morning to go, but Clarke was persistent that they should leave now. There was something about him that Astrid knew he was hiding, but she couldn't figure out what.
Endless possibilities reeled between the girls as they walked back to their spot. One moment Astrid was slinging her arm into her jacket with Octavia behind her, the next she's gone. Most likely, to pick an argument with her brother. She grumbled to herself, then curled into herself as she asleep next to the tree for the night.
The next morning was one of her favorites. Astrid woke up to rain pattering along her face, the smell mixing with the fresh pine. Nothing could compare to the feeling of rain. There was just something about its unique smell, the coolness on her skin, and the way it sounded in the forest.
Astrid waited for Octavia for over an hour after she woke up. She was still missing. Bellamy was still missing too, which usually explained it. So she sat in the drop ship, fidgeting with her hair to pass the time. But when Clarke, Bellamy and Finn came back without her, and with Raven Reyes instead, Astrid grew terrified. Bellamy was too occupied with the radio to even pay attention to Astrid, always shoving her off. So instead, she broke off from the group and went deep in the forest to search for her friend.
An endless amount of energy surged through Astrid and she sprinted through the forest, calling her name. Her eyes darted through the trees, trying to find any sign of Octavia. It all looked the same. The towering trees, the boulders around her, even the way the birds chirped. But her feet took her deeper and deeper, farther than she had ever ventured.
It had turned into nightfall, and Astrid was deeply estranged from camp. She could feel her lungs tear apart with each breath, and her voice began ragged. Her legs were becoming shaky from the hours of running. Eyes trying to search through the endless darkness. Octavia would have returned to camp by now. Or she was dead. Shaking her head, Astrid refused to believe it, and continued to push into the vastness of the forest.
Lights flashed in the sky, only a couple miles from camp. Astrid would have nearly tumbled down a steep hill without the sudden lights. Another flash of lights illuminated the sky. In the distance, at the bottom of the hill she saw a curled body, with dark hair covering her face. She took a moment to gather her strength. Then, Astrid half sprinted and half slid down the hill after her, but the lurking figure near Octavia had her dead in her tracks before she could reach her. Dressed in dark green, covered in moss and leaves to disguise his muscular body, with dark face paint slathered across his face. Frozen in her spot from fear, Astrid watched as the man threw her friend over his shoulder and darted into the woods.
Astrid raced down the hill after them, bobbing in between the trees. The flares had faded now. Her knees threatened to buckle with each step, and she couldn't see exactly where she was going. The grounder was outpacing her by half a mile, even with Octavia slumped over her shoulder. She had nearly lost sight of them in the dark. The camp had to be miles away by now.
A root from a nearby tree sent her flying towards the ground. Her body tumbled in the wet dirt and gravel, tearing her clothes and skin. After wiping the mud from her eyes, Astrid looked up from the muddied ground to see them disappear into the darkened forest. She cursed herself as she slammed her fist into the ground.
In the distance, she could hear faint shouts from camp getting closer and closer. She tried to call back, but her voice was hoarse from calling for Octavia for hours. Astrid's body ached as she pushed herself up to standing. But before she could get to her feet, something cracked against her skull, sending her unconscious.
