It was chaos. Those immediate moments of chaos after her speech. Panic. Fear. Rage, and grief, and shame. Most hid. Some tried to flee. But Emori and John were able to settle the waters of the Sanctum citizens under the guise of their precious Primes.

Lying to them by announcing the truth. Becoming the will of the Primes while Russell was taken. For being con artists, they were pretty damn good at their job.

It gave Astrid time to run. Run to the only place that cleared her mind. A place where she was alone. Where hateful eyes didn't follow her every move. Where she could think. Fuck, where she could breathe.

She just picked a direction and ran until she hit the forest. Then continued until her feet could barely hold her weight. Her head was spinning. Legs were heavy, until she finally sunk down on a nearby log.

What had she just done?

If that slip of power didn't send everybody into fear, she didn't know what would. Hell, it even scared her. How it happened, she wasn't entirely sure.

But in that moment, all she saw was red. So, she became the fire she felt inside.

And she let Sanctum melt to the ground. Their ideologies, their safety, and everything they ever believed with it. Russell too, if she had a choice. But she was not a dictator, and it was better he lived a traitor, than to die a martyr.

Head in between her head, her body was shaking. Nauseous and faint; a combination of the physical and mental fatigue. In the few minutes it took her to regain a sense of gravity, she was already found. Voices bellowed in the distance, calling her name.

As she thrusted herself off the log, she heard their footsteps break through the clearing. Their presence alone pinning her in that spot. Roan, Bellamy, Gabriel, and Octavia.

"You need to go back." She stumbled at a brisk pace, desperate to create some distance.

"You can't just leave without an explanation."

"I can. And I will."

"You announce that the Primes are liars, set the sky on fire, and then proceed to tell a bunch of already terrified citizens that you're an off-planet God that escaped some man from the same planet they have lived on for generations." Gabriel interjected, "Yeah, I think some sort of elaboration is needed."

"Exactly. That's why you need to leave me alone. I'm a danger to everybody around me." Astrid continued forward, using the trees as leverage, "Sanctum needs you guys more than I do."

"They need a leader, Astrid. They're lost. Just like we are."

"I am not your savior." She sneered at nobody in particular, "Don't you understand that? I can't save anybody. I'm marked with death, and if you keep following me, you will be too."

"Astrid, stop." Roan called for her again, but she didn't. "Astrid! Astrid! Astraea, stop!"

Astrid stopped. Not on her own volition. But for a moment, her heart overpowered her mind, and she found her still battered soles planted in the dirt just beyond the towering poles of the inactive barrier.

"Don't you dare," She snarled, barely looking him in the eyes, "call me that."

There was a tension between them. Neither one seemed to move against the gravitational pull that drew them together. Stubbornness forbade them. Instead, they remained five feet apart, unwilling to cross that invisible line.

"We know where you're going." Even his gaze remained unmoving. "Run all you want; we'll find you eventually."

"You saw what I did out there. I can't promise to keep you safe anymore." Desperate filled each word, despite the vicious look in her eyes, "Please. Just go."
