"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Madi looked up to Astrid with a tinge of betrayal as the transport ship door creaked open.

She simply shook her head as she ruffled the hair on Madi's head. "Not yet. There's some information I need to look into. Right now, I trust that you, my little Valkyrie, will handle it."

Astrid desperately wanted to investigate their new home. But Raven and Roan had convinced her otherwise. The facts added up against her— her blood and status amongst her people were too important for them to lose.

"C'mon, let's move." Octavia appeared out of thin air; a shock to everybody on board.

"You stowed away?" Raven gasped angrily as Octavia marched right into the forest.

"What do you expect from the girl who lived under the floorboards?" Astrid grumbled under her breathe, turning a blind eye to Raven's scowl. And despite Madi's best attempt to stifle her laughter, a small giggle emerged from the look of cowardice on Astrid's face.

In reality, Octavia and Astrid shared a few 'choice' words with each other on the way down which nearly ended with the woman at each other's throats. If Roan and Raven weren't there to facilitate the interaction, both of them would be too battered to continue to the ground. Octavia claimed that despite what she did to reunite the clans, Astrid was still to be untrusted. Astrid, on the other hand, was still furious for how she handled the defectors and sending the army into the gorge without rationally evaluating her options.

They were currently on non-speaking terms.

Madi moved to follow Octavia, but Abby and Gaia promptly stopped her. "Wait, no way. No. It was dangerous enough without Blodreina."

"Abby's right, Heda. You're way too important. In order for the union of the leaders to work, all three of you must stay alive. You most importantly." Gaia emphasized dramatically, "We can begin your training, instead."

"Great. So glad I woke you." Madi replied with a teenager's sarcasm before marching back into the shuttle.

Astrid took Madi underneath her arm, "Hey, if you do well with Gaia, maybe you and I can have some sparring time."

The spark in Madi's eye reignited upon hearing Astrid's offer. With a new goal in mind, she was quickly preoccupied with training. Meanwhile, a subtle bump to Astrid's back focused her attention elsewhere.

"What do you think?" He whispered in her ear causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand straight up.

"I-" She paused, clearly flustered before a genuine smile spread across her face, "I think this place reminds me of home. Our home."

The soft look that radiated across her face was enough to make Roan's heart flutter. Violence followed Astrid like a shadow, and oftentimes she was forced to deal with it head on. But the moments that were few and far between, where she could shed that aggressive exterior and be the snarky and carefree person she was, that was Roan's favorite.

As he placed a subtle kiss along her hairline, he pictured those moments on the Ring where she danced around in his t-shirt. Her laugh was so organic and boisterous that it flooded the halls. And despite every single protest, he always caved. Because he would do anything to see that shimmer of bliss in her eyes.

Gravity shifted as Roan leaned down to kiss her.

"Get a room." Diyoza teased lightly as they walked deeper into the shuttle. Astrid gave her a vulgar gesture, which Diyoza returned casually. It might have seemed Astrid took her words a little too literally when she grabbed Roan's hand, she had another idea in mind.
