"You have got to be fucking kidding me!" Astrid cursed as she threw down the journal onto the desk. Jaha was right. Not a single damn page was readable.
A month after they found those videos from Jaha, Astrid finally mustered the courage to assemble their team to break into the Chancellor's desk. It was easy work, but Astrid wasn't entirely sure she was ready to crack the secrets of her past. To realize she was somebody completely different that she always thought she was.
It didn't matter now. Not after looking over the runic symbols and detailed diagrams scrawled across the pages that meant absolutely nothing to her.
Whatever spark of hope grew in her heart quickly fizzled out.
"I guess we're back to square one," Raven shook her head as she propped herself against the wall, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"No..." Astrid's hand splayed across the desk, looking at the odd writing, "This can't be it. There has to be something else."
Gears turned in everybody's mind as they tried to deviate some kind of idea of where to go from here. Nothing in the book would tell them anything, and Astrid had watched Jaha's video's enough times to know there was nothing in those either.
"Wait..." Raven chimed in, picking her head up, "Jaha said you came in a cryosleep pod."
Astrid nodded her head, "Right. He said Engineering brought me in. But whatever was in Engineering got blown up when they sent it to the ground."
"That's the thing," Raven stepped forward, addressing the small crowd of their friends, "I don't think it did."
Everybody exchanged confused glances with one another before Raven continued, "I think there is a small chance it might still be on the Ring."
"What makes you say that?" Bellamy asked.
Raven immediately began hobbling out of the room and towards the infamous command center as she explained, "Two reasons. One, they wouldn't have something like that on board when they descended into Earth. They would have shuttled it somewhere else to save space for people and essential gear."
"What's the second reason?" Roan urged as Raven sat in her swivel chair, immediately clacking on the keyboard.
"I may or may not have salvaged some parts to fix the escape pod I was sent down to Earth in. And if it's in the same place it was when I left it, then it should be here." She continued as she pulled up a large map of the Ring on the holographic table, pointing to a random room.
"You didn't think to lead with that?" Astrid chastised her lightly as they swarmed the table. "What's the catch?"
There was a smug look on Raven's face, "No catch."
"There's always a catch, Reyes." Bellamy added with a sly smile.
"I mean, it's basically scrap now." She shrugged, "We can forage a couple parts and get the basics schematic running but I'd need to see it again to assess exactly what we need."
"So what are we waiting for?" Roan said from beside Astrid, who was still slightly quaking from the recent events. At that moment, everybody's heads turned towards Astrid, waiting for her command.
She sighed, creasing her brows in contemplation before eventually answering, "We have all the time in the world. Let's make it tomorrow's problem."
With those final words, the group dispersed to their respective rooms. Astrid, with that journal in her hand, walked side by side with Roan until they reached their room. As soon as they entered, she tossed aside the book on to the desk.
