For the past 8 months, Astrid had been training in engineering as Raven's apprentice.

When their group discovered the small, white escape pod, it was in worse condition than anybody, including Raven, had expected. It was guessed that Sinclair and the rest of engineering had used parts to try to get the Ark to the ground. Too stubborn to admit defeat, Raven and Astrid formed a pact. With Raven's guidance, Astrid slowly learned the necessary skills to piece together the scrap metal to form something useful in hopes that Astrid's skills would assist her when it came time to land.

Engineering came to Astrid with ease. Splicing wires, simple welding, adjusting electromagnetic current, it all felt like second nature. Perhaps in her past life, these were skills Astrid actually learned. Hell, if her people could create something as complex as that, Astrid must've had some sort of knowledge.

"Pull out that motherboard and let me have a look." Raven instructed, hunched over to watch Astrid from her chair. As commanded, Astrid unhooked the wires and handed the tiny, yet intricate microchip to Raven. She could tell Raven was trying to contain her bewilderment with how advanced the tiny piece of metal was. So much knowledge, so much power, all stored in something the size of a pinky nail.

Suddenly, Raven's brows creased with worry, "It's fried." Astrid immediately shot up from the floor and noticed the blue luster was covered with dull black film. Both of them sighed.

"So what do we do now?"

"Well..." Raven began hobbling over a box of spare parts in the corner of the room, "We can connect an older version of the motherboard to the rig and see if the hard drive will accept it. If it does, then Bob's your uncle."

"I hate that expression." Astrid chuckled as she leaned against the table, arms crossed while Raven continued her digging. Meanwhile, Bellamy sauntered in, looking perplexed at all the wiring and components strewn about the room.

Normally, Astrid would enjoy Bellamy's company. But a week ago, Roan and Astrid got into a heated argument, centering around the man Astrid viewed like a brother. Roan had the audacity to say Bellamy was trying to break them apart for his own greed. Astrid tried to argue that it was preposterous, but Roan wouldn't listen. Too stubborn for his own good.

So for the past week, tensions were high on the Ring. With Astrid crashing on Raven's couch and Roan cooped up in their room, too depressed to socialize with anybody. Even during dinner, he would take his algae slosh to his room, avoiding eye contact with everybody.

Astrid hadn't known Roan could get so overprotective and jealous.

"How's it going?" Bellamy asked as he leaned against the opposite wall of Astrid.

"It would be a lot better if I could find a motherboard that wouldn't get fried the moment we hooked it up to the rig." Raven replied, head still buried in the box. "Bingo."

With a slightly larger and dusty motherboard, the women immediately began working on piecing it back to the ship. Astrid crawled underneath the ship, following every barked order, and the immense number of alterations that followed, due to the intricate layout of the ship. But after connecting the last wire, the beast roared alive.

"Holy shit." Raven gasped as Astrid wheeled out from underneath the ship to marvel at her own work. Slowly, lights began flickering on from the inside of the glass cover. Raven and Astrid shared a quick hug of celebration before looking over the pod.

With the sleeve of her shirt, Astrid wiped away the dust film that covered the glass, revealing a small, yet detailed pod. The lush blue seat was reclined in a lying position, the head rest fully exposed under the glass. Bright lights flickered underneath the portion where metal met glass, indicating the headrest could be postured in a sitting position.
