The end of the month was approaching a lot faster than MePhone had really expected, which was good, because he was excited, but it was also a major problem considering he still hadn't picked out a costume to put together. He knew they took time, too, and he was running out of that. He figured today was the day he sat down and looked online for a bit and just... Thought about it. He knew OJ was going to dress up too, so he didn't want to be out of place and not dress up, so...

MePhone just sighed, flopping down on his couch, and opening the lid to his laptop. The cat was sat in one of the other chairs, just looking up at him as he made all this noise, before returning to its nap.

Which left him alone to do this. Immediately though, he realized this was a lot more difficult to him than it should be. Really, there were too many options, and well... He didn't want to look stupid, and he didn't really want to do a scary costume, so... What did that really leave him?

It didn't take him long to get up, sighing again as he moved to look through his closet, just shuffling through everything. He didn't want to spend a lot of money on this, either. Though, through looking through his closet, he was starting to get some ideas. It could just be something fun, right? Surely. He pulled a few things out of his closet, finally having an idea.

Of course, he did buy a few things online, but they'd surely arrive before the end of the week. That's how long he had at least, so he had to hope everything would be there in time. Just a few accessories, and a new button-up shirt.

It was lame, but he decided to go with a specific theme that popped up in mind. He hoped OJ wouldn't think it was stupid. That's all that really mattered honestly. Not because he cared what the guy thought-- well, he did, but that wasn't the point-- It was just that he was going to be the only one seeing him that night, since they were hanging out. MePhone was going to leave a bowl of candy out on his door, those typical 'take one' things he hoped the kids of the neighborhood would respect, as he hung out with OJ for the evening. At least the bowl would be more than anything he usually did. Most years he'd just turn all his lights off and sit in the dark to make it look like his house wasn't active, because the last thing he wanted was any sort of interaction, especially with any children.

It was crazy to him how different of a person he felt compared to last year. It also honestly surprised him thinking about how he'd probably be that same shitty person if OJ hadn't come into his life.

He really was grateful for the other-- but now wasn't the time to feel sappy. He could do that later. For now, he had things to put together, and a costume to plan out and set aside for the end of the week. Halloween was on a Saturday this year, which didn't mean anything personally to MePhone, but it did mean since it was on the weekend, there would probably be a lot more people around compared to a week day, since children didn't have school to worry about. He wouldn't have to deal with any of that, though, so it still just didn't really matter.

Over all, MePhone was really excited. He had never really been a horror movie enjoyer, but the idea of watching one with someone else-- like any movie really, made the idea a little more enjoyable. It would be fine just this once to sit through something spooky.

...

It was Friday evening, and OJ was searching through his closet, almost desperately. He told his kids he was going to try to put together a different costume-- something other than a vampire for once, because they wanted something new, and he thought it would be fun to put something new together, but despite that, he had completely forgotten about it because of how busy he was with work this week. The last thing on his mind-- even when he was helping his own kids finish their costumes, was choosing something new this year for himself. So he had caved after he helped put the finishing touches on his kids costumes tonight, having to tell them he was going to be a vampire... Again. They weren't too shocked, but they definitely teased him about it. This was the seventh year in a row. He could at least justify it by the fact that it wasn't just some cheap thing you'd find last minute, but something he put effort into putting together the first year he did it. It was just a good costume! He's been a vampire for halloween for more years than he's had his kids around! It was a classic!
