An Ode to Andrew Jackson

The people say that you are a hero.

We both know that is not true.

They all claim that you made the British go.

The war was won without you.

You said you bought native land fair and square.

That you gave them a good deal.

But you had your armies give them a scare.

The Trail of Tears did not heal.

You shut down the national bank one day.

You said it had corruption.

You did it to make your enemies pay.

And bankrupted a nation.

But your image was far too important.

Your image won elections.

Too keep you the hero of common man.

Your flaws were blamed on Van Buren.

The truth is now available to all.

But few people really know.

Your hero worship should take a big fall.

The truth, like a plant, shall grow.
