A young lady loomed over the tombstone.
It saddened her heart that her brother died.
He seemed to shine like an Olympian.
Yet now his soul rested in Tartarus.
The low hum of violin chords played out.
She looked around to see where it came from.
She beheld a man leaning on a stone.
His hands played a somber tune quite slowly.
She walked over to him and listened close.
He gave no indication he saw her.
He just played his heart-rending violin.
Its melody seemed to transmute the soul.
His face was downcast, looking at the earth.
She tilted her head to peer at his face.
His eyes never once gazed back into hers.
She saw something that sent chills up her spine.
The man's eyes had no pupils; Solid white.
There was no mouth either, his face was smooth.
She stepped backwards and fell with a great thud.
She looked up at him to see him unchanged.
He started to play his violin fast.
The tune became harsher and aggressive.
The instrument struggled to stay in place.
His body started to rock side to side.
All at once, her body screamed at her, "Run!"
She darted away from the musician.
The path led to the gate, but there he was.
It was like he teleported to her.
Still, he played his menacing little tune.
The violin was screeching in his hands.
She asked him who he was, what did he want.
He played on as if he didn't hear her.
She decided to try another trick.
She ran up and pushed him down to the ground.
All at once, it became eerily still.
His face now pointed directly at her.
Though he had no pupils, she felt his stare.
He had no mouth to speak, but she sensed words.
There was a male voice echoing in her.
It said, "I play this song to drag you down."
He raised his instrument and played one chord.
Her feet sank inside the earth when he did.
With each chord she sank further and further.
Ankles. Knees. Hips. Stomach. Chest. Shoulders. Head.
