The Altar of the Pagan Temple

She was impressed with the architecture.

The pillars were etched with secret symbols.

Her fingers traced esoteric letters.

She wondered about the message it hid.

She took a few pictures and went inside.

The building was vast in its size and scope.

The walls were a faded mixture of colors.

Tapestries dangled from the wall in shreds.

She got more photographs of the temple.

A tall silver altar stood out to her.

It was carved in the shape of the strong man.

Like Atlas, he held up something sacred.

She observed the curve of the statues hands.

It seemed made to hold a book for reading.

She imagined a pagan priest preaching.

Her eyes soon beheld art on the ceiling.

A naked Dionysus drinking wine.

Apollo driving his flaming horses.

Zeus surrounded by his many lovers.

Hades whisking Persephone to hell

The painting was surprisingly in tact.

She snapped more photos of the grand artwork.

The altar was too heavy to be moved.

She considered the money it was worth.

Perhaps she could break off a piece to sell.

No one would suspect her given its age.

She left the temple for a little bit.

A hammer and chisel came back with her.

She pounded away at the silver man.

The altar stood strong and proud against her.

The chisel broke; The hammer was ringing.

She felt respect for the things fortitude.

The gods above seemed to be mocking her.

She perceived Zeus smirking down upon her.

Dionysus seemed to be laughing now.

She threw the hammer up at the ceiling.

The murals remained untouched by the tool.

The hammer landed near an ugly text.

She looked at it with curiosity.

Her hands picked it up and she opened it.

To her surprise, the text was readable.

"The Titans fall to The Olympians."

"Excess and fortune was to be their lot."

"The mountain pierces the sky in his name."

She felt spellbound by the text and read on.

"The sun penetrates the earth to give life."

"Fire explodes from the ground and covers it."

"The grape becomes a vintage for lovers."

She looked up from the book; She heard something.

The altar was nowhere to be found now.

She looked frantically through the temple.

She found him wearing the robes of the priest.
