The Usual Darkness

The clock was telling time in reverse.

I was too busy eating chicken.

I didn't see the sunset rising.

My eyes were focused on a good book.

The sky changed to the color of green.

I only noticed my kite flying.

Sinkholes swallowed every monument.

Those things were not worth remembering.

Lightning opened new cracks in the Earth.

I stepped over them without notice.

Haunting spirits emerged from the crack.

Just more faces in the massive crowds.

All the insects flew up into space.

Less pests for me to worry about.

The trees of the world burst into flames.

I enjoy dinner by candlelight.

Slowly my lungs could pull in no air.

My eyes saw the usual darkness.
