In the Civil War, he was no pretender.

He was named "Unconditional Surrender."

These were the terms he demanded from his foes.

Celebrated as the great union savior.

In private, some questionable behavior.

To Julia, he was loving and faithful.

But he also greatly loved his alcohol.

As President, his party chose him to be.

He fought against the Klan to help keep slaves free.

His time is called the Era of Good Stealings.

For friends, he had too many trusting feelings.

He wanted his last act to care for his wife.

Twain helped him publish  his life story.

It made plenty of money from his glory.
