He was boiling water to make pasta.

He had rolled his sleeves up to his elbows.

The kitchen was his favorite spot at home.

It let him clear out his mind and focus.

He put the pasta in the pot and stirred.

Minutes went by, the pasta was still hard.

He tried raising up the temperature.

The pot was nearly bubbling over.

Yet, the pasta would not soften for him.

It remained hard and brittle, mocking him.

He sighed and turned the oven higher still.

The pot overflowed and splashed the stove top.

He quickly moved to turn the oven off.

He had cooked pasta many times before.

Why was it so difficult for him now?

Perhaps he had got a bad box from the store.

A deep voice said, "You would like to think that."

He whipped his head around to find the voice.

There seemed to be no one else in the room.

"You're adorable when you're scared," it said.

He grabbed a steak knife and kept on hunting.

"Big knife," the voice mocked, "Bet you can't use it."

He looked in one room after another.

"I like when you chase me," the voice chuckled.

He yelled at the voice, "Show yourself coward!"

"The mystery makes it better," it said.

He threatened to kill whoever it was.

"Come and get me," the voice said, "I want it."

The bathroom was the only unchecked room.

The door opened slowly and he went in.

He jumped back as the shower had turned on.

A large silhouette behind the curtain.

The shadow seemed muscular, imposing.

It seemed to be a towering figure.

The knife began to tremble in his hand.

The voice boomed, "I'm waiting for you to join."

He breathed heavily and gripped the knife hard.

He lunged at the masculine silhouette.

All at once it disappeared and he fell.

The knife penetrated him instantly.
