this is another nightmare fluffy one-shot, but instead it's in Annabeth's pov
thank you @theynashipper12 for the suggestion!
They always started normal.
Nothing to be worried or afraid of. Nothing to question. She always felt at ease in the beginning of them. But of course, they never stayed that way.
The world around her was peaceful, which was much different than how the world was around her. Annabeth could see the beautiful strawberry fields in the distance, with the crystal blue lake and tall oak trees edged around camp. Everything was at ease.
Or at least that what's she kept trying to tell herself.
Usually, Annabeth wasn't afraid of fire. Fire was warmth. Fire was hearth. Fire represented power and sovereignty and reign. It represented glory and praise. It was a force to be reckoned with. Add wind to that fire, and it was unstoppable.
Annabeth recalled sitting in the strawberry fields before the smell of smoke reached her lungs, causing her to choke. Everything was green, until it faded away like dust in the wind. The once peaceful home she was dwelling in was gone- now a wasteland.
She felt blind again, feeling around at the sandy glass floor that was cutting her knees and hands as she tried to stand, but to no advil. She tried to scream, tried to get someone or at least something's attention. But she couldn't even use her own voice. It was like it was taken from her, never to be heard again.
Then she was a figure before her. It was a boy, with sandy blonde hair and bright blues eyes. The boy she loved, standing before. But something was different. The once lay back, go-lucky boy she knew wasn't before her, it was someone else.
Someone else entirely.
It was then that Annabeth realized what was happening. She saw her, standing before them, her eyes wide in fear as the black substance began to swirl around her. Annabeth felt herself moving backwards, hitting a stone wall hard.
Black poison floated in the air, the shrieks from the woman were so loud it was deafening. The whole earth shook violently with her sobs. Until they stopped.
He was in front of her, still holding his stance, rage in his eyes. The boy she knew was gone. He turned to her with a sick grin, smirking as he walked towards her, raising his hand again. Smoke filled her lungs as she tried to scream his name in the hopes that he'd hear her, but it was too late.
It was too late...
When Annabeth woke up, she was shaking. She put a hand over her mouth, trying to hold back a heartbreaking sob as she relived the scene over and over in her mind. Looking around, she told herself that she was back in her cabin on the Argo, safe and sound for the most part.
Slipping out from under the covers, she sighed, rubbing her eyes as she felt a painstaking headache erupt. She grabbed a hoodie hanging on her bed post and got to her feet, knowing that she wasn't going to fall back asleep anytime soon.
As Annabeth walked out into the hall, she thought about going to him. But she wasn't sure she could even face Percy yet. Not after that dream. She knew that he would never do anything to hurt her, but she didn't exactly know how to explain something as horrific as that to him, not after everything. So, turning on her heel, she walked out to the dock.
The sky was littered with stars, and the moon was full as the ship grazed across the waters steadily. Making her way to the railing, she noticed someone standing there already. Except this time, he looked still.
