"I'm sorry," I said, running after her

"I'm sorry," I said, running after her. But she walked past me and ran into the women's restroom. I stopped, not allowed to follow her inside.

I returned to our table, paid the bill, and then waited outside the restroom area for her to come out.

After a while, she emerged, her mascara smudged, clearly showing she had been crying. Shit, did she cry because of me?

"Aana, I am really very sorry I yelled at you," I tried to say, but another tear rolled down her cheek. I quickly moved to her and wrapped her in my arms.

"Hey, I’m sorry. I won’t ever yell at you again. Please don’t cry," I said, gently caressing her hair as she sobbed into my chest. My heart wrenched in pain seeing her like this.

"I got my period," she muttered slowly, breaking the hug. "I think I got a stain on my clothes," she said, starting to sob again.

"It's alright, it's normal. Why are you crying? Come here," I said, pulling her into another hug and rubbing her back to comfort her.

I took off my coat and tied it around her waist to cover the stain. "Do you need sanitary pads or a tampon? Let's go," I offered.

"No, I have some in my purse. Let's just go home; I'm not feeling well," she said.

"Okay, let's go," I replied, holding her hand and leading her to the car. I opened the door for her, and she got in.

As I drove, the silence between us was more painful than any awkwardness could be. I glanced at her, feeling guilty for yelling at her, especially when she was already dealing with so much.

Driving down the highway, I spotted an ice cream parlor. Maybe this will cheer her up, I thought, pulling over to the side.

She looked at me as the car stopped. "Just give me two minutes," I said, opening the door and getting out.

I ran to the ice cream parlor, where the staff greeted me. "What can I get for you, sir?" they asked.

I looked at the menu, suddenly realizing I didn’t know her favorite flavor. Unsure, I decided to get a variety. "One chocolate, one strawberry, one pistachio, one vanilla, and one mint chocolate, please," I ordered.

The staff looked at me curiously. "You want all of these, sir?"

"Yeah," I replied. He nodded and went to get my order.

I took the ice creams, paid, and ran back to the car, opening the door and getting inside.

"Where did you go?" she asked as soon as I entered.

"Here," I said, passing her the six ice creams. She looked at me, knitting her brows in confusion.

"This many?" she asked.
