"Achha baba, I'm sorry," he said, holding his ears in an attempt to look apologetic. I was only pretending to be upset, but I couldn't help the amusement bubbling up inside. He watched me with a hint of worry, which made the whole thing even sweeter."It's okay," I said, shifting closer to him with a playful smirk. "It's your birthday today, so I'll let it slide... but don't think I won't be upset later." I bit back a smile, pretending to be serious.
Without missing a beat, he pulled me onto his lap, settling me against him. We were sitting on the mattress I'd placed on the floor, with a cozy little tent I had built behind us, and the table in front still held the remnants of the cake he'd just cut. A cool breeze hinted at the start of winter, but his warmth enveloped me, making me feel secure as he wrapped his arms around me, holding me close. "I'll make sure you never have a reason to be upset," he murmured, planting a soft kiss on my cheek.
I laughed, feeling a shiver as his fingers brushed against my back. "We'll see about that," I teased, my voice shaky as he traced gentle patterns along my back, sending a delightful tingling sensation through me.
"You know," he whispered, his voice a soft murmur, "you still haven't replied to my 'I love you.'" His fingers danced lightly over the sheer fabric of my dress, making it almost impossible to think straight.
Kashish's words echoed in my mind-her encouragement to take a step forward if I was ready. I swallowed, realizing how much I wanted to say it back.
"Please, Aana, say it," he pleaded softly, his voice a whisper that carried so much emotion it made my heart ache. His fingers caressed my cheek, his touch feather-light as his thumb brushed over my lips. I swallowed, feeling the fire he always managed to ignite within me.
Gathering every ounce of courage, I gently cupped his face in my hands, my fingers tracing the edges of his jaw. His beautiful green eyes, so full of longing and vulnerability, gazed back at me, and I let myself get lost in them for a moment. "I fell in love with your eyes the first time I saw them," I began, my voice wavering slightly. "They sparkled in the sunlight, making you look so majestic that I couldn't help but be captivated. Even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I'd be able to look into them this closely one day. I never thought these eyes would search for me in a room full of people, or that I'd get to call you mine-only mine. You always seemed so precious, so unattainable, that I cherished you from afar, never daring to hope for more."
