"Why aren’t you listening to me? You can’t just give her my project!" Sobha’s sharp voice cut through the air like a blade, echoing in the cabin. Her frustration was written all over her face.
Papa leaned back in his chair, his expression as stern as ever, while Sobha and I stood before him. He had reassigned the project Sobha had abandoned during her wedding preparations—only for everything to fall apart later. I wasn’t in the mood to argue with her, not after everything that had happened. My mind was still preoccupied with Avivansh’s revelations about his tragic past, the weight of which hadn’t left me since our conversation at home.
Papa’s voice broke through my thoughts. "Don’t raise your voice here, especially not at me," he said, his tone cutting. "You abandoned the project, costing us valuable time and money. Don’t think I don’t know who originally proposed the idea. This discussion is over." He waved us away, leaving no room for further debate.
As we stepped out of the cabin, Sobha grabbed my arm roughly, forcing me to stop. I yanked my arm free as we reached a quiet corner.
"What do you think you’re doing?" she hissed, glaring at me with venom in her eyes.
"I’m not in the mood, Sobha. Move," I said flatly, brushing past her.
"That’s my project, Avni! Stay out of it!" Her voice rose again, sharp and accusing. "Typical you—always taking what’s mine. First, it was Papa’s love, then the man I was supposed to marry, and now my work!"
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to face her. She stood there with her arms crossed, daring me to respond. But I stayed silent, refusing to rise to her bait.
Her next words were like a dagger to my heart. "I wish Dad had never found you. You should’ve stayed rotting in that orphanage, just like your mother left you there."
"Sobha!" I shouted, anger surging through me. "How dare you bring my mother into this!" My voice shook with fury. "You’re the one who neglects everything and then blames others for your failures."
Taking a deep breath, I steadied myself. "Papa loves me, but he never pushed you away. You chose to prioritize your parties, your friends, and your whims. And let’s not forget—you stole the idea for that project from my team."
I took a step closer, my voice firm and unyielding. "And let’s talk about the marriage. You ran away without a word, abandoning everyone—him, his family, and even our own. Do you even realize the damage you caused?"
Her glare faltered for a moment, but I didn’t let up. "One thing you need to get straight, Sobha. I’m married to Avivansh now. He is my husband, and you’d better accept that. Stop living in denial."
Without giving her a chance to respond, I turned and walked away, leaving her standing there with whatever bitterness she had left to hold onto.
