I sighed in as I took a seat for the first time today I had woken up extra early to decorate my house for my beautiful daughter Dove's 4th birthday and prep everything all myself up until this very moment where I look around to see my family and close friends gathered to celebrate

"Hey y/n nice to see you" my favorite cousin came in greeting me

Y/n: Heyy agent , how have you been?

A: doing great actually, where's dove?

Y/n: she's running around somewhere, how's all the guys

A: everyone is cool , some of the guys sent presents too

He said showing me the extra gifts he had brought, I subconsciously looked through them even though I knew one from him would be unlikely

Y/n: well tell them I really appreciate it, im going to go look for dove

I said excusing myself to hunt for her , I looked around the whole backyard and her playroom but she wasn't there I was on my way upstairs to her room when I spotted her by the front door

Y/n: dove why aren't you at outs–

I froze at the sight I saw before me and quickly frowned

Y/n: dove go outside please your missing your party

I said rushing her out the back door and turning my gaze to the man who was talking to her

Y/n: why are you here ?

Dd: um I have a gift

Y/n: everyone else sent there gifts , why are you actually here duke ?

Dd: I wanted to see her

Y/n: why now ? It took you 4 years to show your face , I thought I'd never see the day but here you are so why now ?

Dd: look I don't want to make this a big deal , if you don't want me here I'll just leave the gift

Y/n: I think you should g-

A: Heyy duke I didn't know you were coming, let's go lemme introduce you to my family

Agent said bursting in and taking him outside without a chance for me to protest it ,no one knew about duke and i except for obviously agent and the other members

We met during one of my visits to Atlanta, we started seeing each other romantically but wrote it off as no more then a fling but we remained friends, every time I visited after that we'd have our fun and leave it at that

When I found out I was pregnant and was already far along I reached out to duke to let him know but he ghosted me because he was talking to a girl , I didn't push for him to be in doves life because it's not what he wants

I was heart broken for a long time, I blamed myself for hiding my true feelings for him and disguising it as something casual , I blamed him for not even trying to reach out and meet his daughter

but everyone seemingly liked him so I decided not to focus on him , I spent time hosting and playing with the kids making sure dove has the best time she can possibly have until it was time for cake
I was struggling to get the large heavy sheet pan out of my fridge when I felt the crushing weight lifted off me

Dd: let me help

He said setting it down on the counter and I started placing candles on it

Dd: you look tired

Y/n: yeah you don't say

Dd: I'm sorry for not being there for you and dove , I hate too see you like this
