When I was younger, I had so much pressure on me to be perfect. With both of my parents being surgeons I was trained from a young age to follow in their footsteps. I did my best and was the youngest black women to graduate top of my class in one of the most prestigious med schools.
I was happy at first I specialized in plastic surgery and I was good at it too , getting paid well to make someone over brought me back to the days i would play with my brats dolls and my clients always loved their results but recently I haven't been feeling motivated to accept any clients
Today someone was rushed in by security guards, he was scheduled a consultations with me so after signing in and doing a routine check he was sent to my office
Y/n: hello im Dr. young , it's nice to meet you Mr.Lee
I said to the man who had on a beanie, sunglasses and a mask on , once he took it off I was shocked to see who it was
H: you can call me heeseung ma'am
He said shocking me , I didn't know that an idol would come to see me
Y/n: okay heeseung I know who you are , what are you here for today ?
H: I want a nose job
He said taking me by surprise, I know it's extremely common for idols to get plastic surgery but heeseung is really young and already very handsome
Y/n: is there a specific reason why?
I asked hesitantly I didn't want to make him uncomfortable or anything like that
H: um .. when I was young I hit my head and I fractured a bone in my nose , it gave my nose a slight curve
Y/n: may I?
I asked putting on some gloves to examine his nose , once he gave me permission I placed my hand on his cheek and lean closer to look at his nose
Y/n: you had a nasal fracture in the sidewall on your left side , but it's all healed now, the curve is subtle nothing a little bit of makeup can't fix
H: it's not just the curve that bothers me , it's all the people's comments about it too, whether it's too big or too wide. my company used to focus on my talent now they keep suggesting that I should do something about it
My heart was saddened to hear that, this is the reason I started second guessing my profession in the first place, I thought that I was helping people by enhancing their features to improve their confidence but I realized that most people who come here are insecure about something .
Y/n: heeseung , a nose job is a minor procedure but there can be a couple of complications with the surgery things like trouble breathing or the risk of nasal collapse are you sure this is truly something you want .
He took in my words before hesitantly answering
H: i- I- don't know
He put his head down when his eyes began to water
Y/n: it must be so hard ,working in your field, with all the people watching and judging you they expect you to be perfect, but the truth is that nobodies perfect not even Idols and with you being someone of your status I think it's important that you embrace your imperfections
H: How can you say that? im just trying to be accepted by my fans, you are the surgeon someone of your status would just fix me
He said with a raised voice due to him now being upset , I didn't mind it though
Y/n: You don't need to be fixed, your nose looks normal and your fans ... your true fans will always except you even if it wasn't . you don't need to change yourself for others . You don't need to fulfill whatever unrealistic expectations anyone has, it will get you nowhere. Believe me cause I know all about succeeding unrealistic expectations and I'm still unhappy with myself, I don't even know who I am if I'm not a surgeon
H: so what do I do ? If I don't get it and your wrong about this , it will cost me my career
Y/n: I doubt that would be the case , but if I'm wrong then I'll do the procedure free of charge .
H: are you for real ? He asked shocked and I nodded
Y/n: Think about what's right for you , if you change your mind you can let me know . You have my info ?
H: yes , thank you DR.young
He said getting ready to leave , I got up to walk him out
Y/n: you can call me y/n.
I watched as he got in his car and drove away
A week later
Y/n: hello mother ,father I said as we sat in a fancy restaurant
M: hey y/n what was so important that you invited us out to dinner
Y/n: it's just , I know since I was kid you guys high expectations of me and you were both so proud of me when I graduated and opened up my clinic But im been thinking and I'm not happy with It ?
D: what aren't you happy about, is one your employee's giving you a hard time ?
Y/n: no , it's the just everyone I see is already naturally beautiful but they are unable to embrace themselves bc of someone else's opinions . I don't think that's right . I believe that everyone is unique in their own way and that we should all just accept people for who they are
M: ok that's what you believe, people don't care about all of that stuff. You will lose your job but Your clients will just go see another surgeon.
Y/n: I don't care , I'm tired of being an enabler for something I don't believe in .I Just invited you here to tell you that I sold the clinic to some therapist couple . I'm going back to school to study how to become a therapist so I help people fix what's inside
I paid the bill and excused myself, told my parents I have to meet someone important . I just went straight to the meeting point after that and waited for him
H: hey y/n , nice seeing you again
Y/n: we've saw each other almost everyday this week heeseung
H: it's still a pleasure , what's the verdict? Have you told your parents ?
Y/n: yeah I did , I left before they had time to actually respond but they seemed to understand where I was coming from
H: ok I have the application right here , my brothers professor is expecting you to join the class by the end of the month
He said giving me the application for college he promised me , Heeseung came to me the day after his appointment saying after our talk he spoke with his members and they all agreed that it would be best for him not to do go through with the procedure. I was delighted to here that was I said had a impact in his decision and he joked about how I should quit being a surgeon to become a therapist and but after thinking I decided to take it seriously
Y/n: Thank you again , for everything
H: it's no problem i should be the one thanking you , can't believe i almost ruined my gorgeous face
I cringed making the both of us laugh
Y/n:yeah it's pretty cute
