When Jerome and I made it back to his shop, I stretched my arms over my head and yawned as we stood outside the enchanted entrance, hidden well with magic behind a dusty bookshelf.

"Thank you for today." I said to him, leaning against the wall. "It felt nice.. letting loose."

He nodded in understanding. "I'd say so. If you don't provide yourself with an outlet for your magic, it builds and builds inside you, threatening to swallow you whole."

I looked at him curiously, humming in response. "Hmm. I've never thought of it that way before. I s'pose you're right."

He smiled, causing his brown eyes to light up before he ran behind the aged wooden desk at the front of the shop and started digging through a drawer. "One more thing..."

When he plucked a tiny object from the drawer and ran over to me, my interest was piqued. He held out his hand, presenting me with a silver ring in the shape of a feather.

"It's enchanted. If there is an emergency, the ring will warm on your finger, growing hotter by the second."

I quirked a brow, waiting for him to continue.

"The hotter it grows, the more pressing the matter. Regardless, it means that we are to have an emergency meeting at the headquarters ASAP. If it heats to the point of burning you, we are to meet up within an hour. No questions asked, no matter the circumstances. Understood?"

I nodded, taking the ring and sliding it on my right index finger.

"Shall we?" He gestured towards the bookshelf before pulling a book from its rightful place, causing the collection of books to melt away, revealing Dusty's Bookshop in good old Kingsport.

"You can let yourself out. The door will lock automatically behind you," he told me, flashing me a warm smile as I walked through the magical barrier. "It was nice meeting you, Elle."

"You too." I returned his smile. "Thanks again."

His smile grew before the bookshelf reclaimed its rightful place, hiding Stitchers Bend and all its glory.
I felt light as a feather as I walked across the shop, the bell hanging above the door 'dinging' as I made my exit. The door closed behind me, locking with a 'click'.

Before I took my first step on the sidewalk, the sound of a panicked voice came from over my shoulder.

"Elliana!"

I stiffened in response, pausing mid-step.

"Elliana.." He repeated, sounding utterly relieved as he ran up to me.

I turned to face him, quirking a brow at the golden-eyed boy. His shoulders were slumped forward, his features twisted with a mixture of sorrow and relief.
