||Elliana's P.O.V.||
Edward's eyes of embers held my gaze, a fire burning in their depths that left me speechless. Hesitantly, I stole a glance in Cedric's direction; he was staring at me intently, his eyes full of patience.
"Well..." I trailed off, staring straight ahead as I gathered my thoughts. "You know that Cedric was... my best friend. For six years, he was... there. He was always there. Up until last year anyway..."
A lot of things changed during my sixth year at Hogwarts— My friendship with Cedric being one of them.
"If I'm being honest..." I sheepishly met Edward's curious gaze, a blush rushing to my cheeks as I continued, "I was in love with him for years. I never looked at him and saw him as just a friend. He always felt like so much more to me, even though he didn't feel the same."
"How do you know he didn't feel the same?" Edward wondered, tilting his head to the side, his brows furrowing in what seemed to be confusion.
Cedric's head whipped in my direction, staring at me with an intensity that surprised me.
Blinking rapidly, I mumbled, "Um.. Well, I-I mean, he made it clear. When I finally told him the truth, he... wanted nothing to do with me."
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Cedric's jaw go slack. In the blink of an eye, he placed himself directly in front of me, his silver orbs glinting with emotion.
"That's not true, Elliana," he stated in a stern, sorrow-filled voice.
My mouth ran dry as I lost myself in a memory— one that I'd rather forget.
"Cedric," I breathed out his name, my cheeks flushing as his stormy eyes locked with mine.
He quirked a brow, waiting for me to continue.
"Can we talk? Please?" I bit my lower lip nervously.
He nodded once. "Of course. What's up?"
He closed the book he was reading and shoved it in his bag before standing up, towering over my five-foot-one stature. I gulped. My heart was already thumping wildly against my ribcage.
"Can we, um... talk somewhere more private?" My voice wavered slightly, earning a confused look from my friend.
"Yeah..." He trailed off slowly. "Is everything okay, Elliana?" His voice was laced with concern.
I was quick to nod. "Y-Yeah. I just really need to talk to you is all."
It was then that Chang rounded the corner (of course), locking eyes with Cedric and giving him a stern look. She bounded over to us and linked her hand through his, casting me a glare that went unnoticed by him. He kissed her temple, causing my heart to drop to my stomach. I felt like I was going to be sick. Perhaps I shouldn't go through with this?
